Playlist Backups
 

I have about a dozen playlists. I notice that hoster keeps backing them up. I have to go in and delete them every once in a while. I haven't found a way to turn this off. Is it possible to set hoster not to back up a playlist?

i think you have to uncheck " keep songs after play" under tools.. my playlist gets deleted after a song is played...

I don't want to delete the playlist, I just don't want hoster to continue to backup the playlist. I need to keep the playlist for the shows I do.

i don't really know what you meant by hoster backing up your playlist, i thought you meant that the songs remains in the playlist after it played , or everytime you opened up hoster..i have never heard hoster backing up playlist before..

Because I don't have the setting to delete the songs after they play, hoster saves them as and example, def001; def002.hst, etc. I save my playlist under a name that I will recognize in the future like "elvis show.hst". I don't know what def001 is until I open it. I use windows explorer to access the playlist and delete the ones I don't want (def001). What I meant was, is there anyway to keep hoster from backing the playlist up by naming them hoster default's as described above?

after your show click "file-> save as" and name it anything you like.
Anytime you click "file-> new" you will get a blank playlist using a default name such as def001. The playlist is designed so that any change is made immediately so if you make changes after renaming it, the renamed .hst file will record those changes.

Thank you for your input. I guess I haven't made my question clear. I am trying to find out if there is a way to keep hoster from automatically saving a playlist. If the playlist is not set to delete songs after they play and then you exit holster it saves the play list. Also, when hoster is updated to a new version, it saves previous playlists and backs them up with the def** format. I apologize if my question was not clear.

gees! i am confused.:?..are these songs you wanna save are your singers songs or your songs?..if you dont wanna save them or delete them on a regular playlist window ,maybe you can put them on your singers playlist database ,and name them as elvis**** and just let the regular playlist window delete the songs you didnt wanna keep after it's been played..i guess?? that way when you open/closed hoster you'll have a blank slate on your regular playlist window..and you'll have the songs you wanna keep on the singers database...if i'm wrong ..just trying to help:)

The answer to your question is NO. It is part of the crash recovery to keep saving.
I assume that what you want is for Hoster not to alter your original Playlist, One way to do this after opening a Playlist before doing anything else go to "save as" and save with a different name, then carry on using this occurrence of Hoster then when you finish it will save as usual but your original file will still be in-tacked.

The default for Hoster is to start with def001.hst. If you leave the songs on the list when you close, then re-open Hoster the same list will still be there. If you don't want that list and click new then it creates def002.hst. If you keep doing this each time then yes you will wind up with a bunch of them. Hoster will always save the playlist so if there is a catastrophe you can re-open Hoster and continue on from where you left off. So to simply answer your question - No, there is no way to keep Hoster from saving the playlist. In fact Hoster doesn't only save it when you exit Hoster, but saves it every time you made any change to it (add a song, delete a song, move a song, etc).
You say you have named playlists you use. Then what you need to do is delete all the def00_.hst files. Then when you open Hoster it will open with a new empty playlist (def001.hst). Then go to File/Open and bring in the playlist you want. If when you close Hoster your named playlist is still in it then when you open it again it will still be there (no def file). Do this each time without ever clicking new and it won't create any more "def00_.hst" files. Just remember that every time you click File/New it will create another "def00_.hst file.
As far as Hoster creating backups of your playlists when you install an update that is not true. When you install Hoster it does not do anything with the HST files. If you use the Remove in the installer those files are not deleted and when you re-install none are created.

Thanks guys. I like the idea of creating a singers data base name as elvis for example for shows etc. I didn't think of that.

Dale thanks for the explanation but I do know when I upgraded to hoster 4.00 it duplicated my playlist. As an example if I had a playlist called "oldies", it added a duplication and named it def4.001 or something like that. Anyway, thanks for the answers.

WaltR, The reason for the duplicate playlist is one plays on 4.00 (def4.001) and the original playlist (oldies) plays on the back-up version 3.4 that comes with 4.00. This was due to Vista problems when 4.00 was first introduced. It was a back-up so 'The Show Could Go On'. A smart move on MTU's behave. I personally had to use it a few times until 4.09e release.
