Import CD Tracks Window - solved with good USB cable
 

I knew i should have stuck to my philosophy "If It Ain't Broke...George Leave It Alone". Anyway, i thought i would upgrade to 4.09d because of the improved Insta Buttons. Just recieved in the mail my Chartbuster Monthly. Now i can't get the Import CD Tracks window to open. aaarrrgggg. When i click on import CD Tracks, it just sits there. If i click on any other part of Hoster, it says "Holster Not Responding". Just when i had everything working so smoothly. Yes i have done all updates, yes i followed the changes to make on vista. etc.. have been using Hoster for awhile so yes, yes, yes and yes! :t :?

Check to make sure your drives are listed and one is set as default in the CD/DVD Drives Tool. One of the fixes was involving this area for those running with no drives (mini-notebooks don't have one) that will grey out CD import capabilities. I have one drive that no longer works (still says it is good) and after installing this upgrade the default drive had reset to that drive. I had to change it back to the right drive.
Did you restart the computer after installing it?
If you have done updates recently you might want to check the UAC and make sure one of those updates didn't turn UAC back on. Some have seen that happen.
Have you tried re-installing to see if maybe it was just a bad load?

Dale thank you so much for your suggestion. I did find the trouble. I had a bad usb cable, going from the external drive, to my laptop. This is a new one on me. I never have had a cable interfere with a piece of software???

I replaced the usb cable, now all is well again. When it comes to audio cables i build my own. Using either Canare, or Mogami quad cables. I have them all color coded for quicker hookup. The best cables you can have, are the ones you build yourself using good cable and good ends. I build my own speaker cables, using 12 gauge Proco speaker cable, and speakon connectors.

I purchased the junk usb cables i had from Radio Shack. I went to our local computer store, and got a couple of custom build usb cables. I can't express enough how important good cables are to your system. People have custom built computers, thousands of dollars worth of audio gear, wireless mics, just to have them connected with junk cables.
Anyway, it fixed it, all is working swell again, just like it's suppose to.

Your welcome. Glad you found it. And yes your high dollar system is only as good as the cables you use.

radio shack products are good for emergency use only, thats the only reason i buy stuff from them.. (since radio shack is like weeds, they're all over the place:g:g )

Literally! I stopped counting how many cables, wires, adapters, etc. that I use as a mobile KJ, and setup and teardown every show... tracing a ground loop hiss... or finding out that you have been getting only half of the base thump, because one of the cables, to one of the woofers was bad... blaming the long run of coax, or the new high def tv's, for the poor graphics, when actually it is that splice/adaptor from Radio Shack that never worked very well... these type of problems will be incurred by most of us, and it is great when you can troubleshoot the problem here on the forum, through the experience of other KJ's first, without it affecting your show, and maybe costing you a gig....:w

You are so right RIKKI. Incidently, i enjoy your informative threads and post on the Karaoke Forum. I know for a fact, that you are a seasoned pro at this game. I will continue to read and learn from you, and others here, and on the karaoke forum.
I started doing karaoke shows back before the laser disc even. I recall my first karaoke show was in a little neighborhood corner bar. I had Sound Choice, Pocket Songs, and Music Maestro cassettes, and cards with the lyrics. Did it for tips. Had an old Peavey PA, with the tower speakers, 4-8" speakers in each column, 2 old shure mics, and that was it. My my how things have changed.
Also been a guitar player in more bands then i care to remember. But i enjoy this crazy stuff as a past time now, and enjoy getting together with friends who are also KJ's. Perhaps one day our paths will cross. Keep up the good work RIKKI, and tell Vicki that george says hi.
