Sound Cut-Out
The computer that I use at my gigs is a Dell that I bought from MTU and it has everything recommended by them...because I had so many problems with the previous (Vista) computer, that I was using...I decided to play it safe and continue using the 3.4 version of Hooster and it works great.... except lately, the music started cutting out during the middle of a song (the words continue to show up on the screen, though)...So I shut the computer off and re-started, which re-booted it and everything worked fine...but now it's starting to do that more often! Last night it cut out and I re-started, then it cut out again, in the same song, so the singer couldn't finish! They've sang that same song many times in which it didn't cut out, but now I'm starting to have this annoying problem and I never know when or which song is going to cut out! Does anyone have any suggestions??????????
Thanks!!!!! |
How long have you been using this computer ?
If it's fairly new then I am probably wrong, but it sounds a bit like an overheating problem. Could be a damaged cooling fan or airways blocked. check that the vents look clear & do you hear the fan cutting in a lot or not at all. Roy. |
You bought this computer from MTU and it has Vista or XP on it? It was my understanding that they only sold units with XP.
Is this a laptop or a desktop model? Have you kept the updates current from Microsoft? What is the size of your hard drive and how much free space is available on it? Are you importing a singer's disc when this happens? What version of Hoster? |
The computer is a laptop with XP Pro and someone told me to check the Control Panel and I noticed under Sounds and settings that the cursor was almost at low, so I bumped it up to high and now I'm about off to my gig, so I'll find out if it cuts out tonight, again, or not....hopefully, Not!!!!
Anyways...another question....because I've got 50/50 from people on this...I only use this computer for my shows and nothing else....So should I hook up to the internet and periodically update Windows? Some tell me to do that, and others say that updating Windows slows the computer down and that people do it because other people tell them that they should do that.........anybody know the facts? Thanks!!!!! |
in my opinion its always good to do the updates, not so much the microsoft windows updates, but the custom updates is what's important since most of them or all are needed to run hoster right..but that's just my opinion..don't run the updates at once just a few at a time..

Usually if I am taking the machine out of service I go ahead and un-install Hoster, re-install Windows, clean out all the unnecessary services, turn off every option that is humanly possible, update Windows, and re-install Hoster. Other than that, I just leave well enough alone while it is in service. If you feel comfortable making these kind of changes to your system, I will PM you the procedure I go through. I won't post it in the open forum for fear of someone who doesn't know what they are getting in to, messing up their machine and blaming it on me:g:g |
Thanks for your answers!!!! As far as the upgrades on Hooster goes...long story...had a Vista...lots of problems...switched over to Dell with XP Pro and since I had so many problems with the Vista, I decided to hang with the Hooster 3.40, since it was working out! So, since I bought the upgrade along with the Dell, I decided to install it on the old Vista to see if I like it....so that's been another problem....I've been trying to figure out how to get the little display window on the computer screen to be made larger, so that I could read the lyrics...I've had various suggestions, but so far, none of them have worked! A few weeks ago, I was able to get an arrow, in which I could drag it to make it larger, but the arrow is gone and I can't figure out how to get it back!!!!
