possible reason for out of sync

I was playing around with my test computer at tonight's show and had a song that jumped sync. I was using my laptop with Vista that I use for testing. I was purposely trying to stress it by leaving on all the services that I usually turn off. Everything was going great. In the middle of a song, the words got out of sync. What I had just done prior to that was turn on the wireless. It found the internet connection and updated the time. Apparently my computer time was off by a couple of seconds and the audio sync followed the computer time. The video was unaffected. I changed the time during a song and got the out of sync again. Then I changed the time before starting a song and then turned on the wireless. When it found a connection, sure enough, BAM out of sync. I then changed the time prior to starting a song, but unchecked the auto synchronize for the clock. Then started the song, turned on the wireless, and it was unaffected.

Just thought this might help someone in the future and wanted to document it. I think I will add to my list of initial setup on a new machine to turn off the auto sync for the clock.

Mark,
I changed the time on my XP show machine one night during a show and the lyrics went out of sync on the song that was playing. I never did that again! :e I was not connected to the internet. I will uncheck the "Automaticaly syncronize with an internet time server" box on my show and run some tests when I get the time. I just unchecked this box on my test machine which is online. :w

hahaha, about time someone else does that:)
I have done it twice before and it knocked everything way out. I did it while someone was singing, no less.:r

On my show machine I unchecked the "Automaticaly syncronize with an internet time server" box in Date And Time > Internet Time, ran a song and adjusted the time. NEVER DO THIS! :e The lyrics to the song I was playing started running wild.

DO NOT ADJUST HE TIME WHEN A SONG IS PLAYING IN HOSTER!

Who says they are? They are not doing a show while testing this I am sure, but reporting it afterwards.

Dale was correct. I wouldn't normally be online. There are some, however, who don't seem to understand about keeping their show machines lean and mean. This may be ignorance, or financially motivated. I try to test all possible situations, no matter how absurd, to detect problems and find solutions. Luckily, I have a very forgiving clientele. They allow me the latitude to test things during my shows if it's not too busy.
