VGA to RCA Converter That Works...

My RCA plug on one of my laptops broke & I really am not up to the task of taking the thing apart (or paying anyone else to). I bought a USB powered VGA to TV converter a couple of years ago & it didn't work no matter what I tried. Does anyone use one that does?

I see a lot of new laptops are being equiped with HDMI out instead of S Video. Since most of the Club Tvs are not going to be HDMI. It looks like we need a workable VGA solution.

It would be really nice if there were a USB Video Card available, but I can't seem to find one. The ones that look like what I would want are actually recognised as 'input devices'....Wayne

what kind of laptop do you have ?

Laptop Model

I several, but this one is a Compaq Presario 3000...

Have any of your laptops computers got vga out ?
If so you can get vga to RCA or S-video converters. Then you don't use up a usb slot.

Roy.

Wayne I would look for one that uses a wall plug instead of USB. USB powered items take power from the laptop and that means less available power for the laptop itself.

To Clarify

Yes, ALL of my laptops have a VGA. My question & maybe it is a stupid one is;

Does anyone know of a Make/Brand/Model of VGA to RCA (or S Video) converter that actually works. I bought one previously & it doesn't work. I have tried it with multiple machines....Wayne

go to www.eitech.com get a maxview pc to tv converter, this one has a vga in to rca/s-video out..connect the vga from your laptop to the vga in of the maxview converter and you can use either the rca or the s-video out. and this one has a power cable so you don't need to use you usb port, i used to used this and it works..you can even use both the rca and the s-video if you want to use 2 tv/lcd singers screen. theres also a product called viewport, i had one just can't find it right now i think this one has vga and hdmi on it.

Thanks, I will check out that brand, but I don't think your link is correct. At least it doesn't look like a place to buy this product...Wayne

I checked their web site and there appear to be 2 models. 27387 and 27388. They look to be identical except that 27388 ships with extra cables and the DVD version of Cyberlink software. However, only 27388 documents support for karaoke titles. Which model did you get?

Note: http://www.cablestogo.com/ appears to be the same company, but with a more accessable web site.

Solved!

I have been using Grand Ultimate XP Pro PC to TV converter for two years with absolutely no problems. Go to the following site for all the deatails.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Con.../dp/B000ELL2Q6

I am sure it can be sourced in the US

Cheers

Actually, I'm in Canada :)

Thanks for the recommend.

A quick search suggests that TigerDirect used to carry it. They still carry other Grand products, but not PC to TV. I'll do a more detailed seach later today.

I haven't ordered anything yet. Still trying to find anyplace in Canada that sells these product(s) at a reasonable price.

(I'm also busy at work with year end, so not a lot of free time.)

wireless vga to tv

I bought a wireless vga to tv and only works for 5 minutes then quits...great idea if it worked...anyone use this???

ddouglass April 20th, 2009 10:16 PM

What happens after 5 minutes?
Are using this with a laptop or desktop?
Is it a USB powered or does it have an AC power source?

captnkarl April 20th, 2009 10:29 PM

I paid around $100 bucks for it is a "Fullband Tech wireless pc to tv"...I connect the vga out which split to the monitor and the sending unit and plug in the composite video to a tv. Each has its own power source and supposed to be good for up to 100 feet, but after only 5 minutes or so, it just flashes in and out sporatically. Tried it at home and the same thing happened no matter which one of the frequencys i'm on. On the horn with Dell now to see if they have anything integrated, but not too promising.

ddouglass April 20th, 2009 10:45 PM

Either you got a bad unit or you have interference in the area that causes the loss of signal. I would check with the company and see if they will replace it.
