I though I had sent this post a while ago, but I have not seen it, so here it is again.

I have been experimenting with other character that may show on the Karaoke song. I have found these:

Press and hold the "alt" key and type 15, release "alt" you get ¤
Press and hold the "alt" key and type 21, release "alt" you get §
Press and hold the "alt" key and type 126, release "alt" you get ~
Press and hold the "alt" key and type 249, release "alt" you get •

There are other symbols that come up with the "alt" key pressed, but as far as I know these are the only 4 that show on the actual Karaoke screen. Does anyone know why?, they show up on a .txt file.

I use the symbols to center the title of the song and authors and to cue or measures in the musical solos. It helps with the monotony of the same display all the time.

So far I have done 42 songs, it seems to get easier, but I was very happy to see the message from Dave (administrator) telling us of future upgrades...It sounds GREAT!!! and I will not bug him about the date when they will be out...I swear :)

Karaoke Players are single function black boxes that only play the CDG format designed in the mid '80s. TrueType fonts weren't in general use then. These single fuction products require logic and firmware to draw every character, and I expect "extraneous" characters were simply left out to keep cost down. Today, some players may display other codes, but if you design for them, otehr players won't show them, displaying the song differently than you expect.

Experiment with the other characters and see if they appear on other Karaoke Players. It would be interesting to start a Thread with different Karaoke Player models and what characters they support.

Hey Bandl !

Why don't you go the easy way???

I type the songs with Micros**t WORD. So I can even get the copyright-symbol by pressing ctrl+alt+c.

Then mark the whole Text / copy / paste into notepad / KHP!

And for KHP it's even no Problem to display the German "special-caracters" (a o u with the funny dots on).

greets from Germany !

Showteam,
I have no problem with letters. I also no problems with the "funny" Spanish letters (accents and the ñ, Ñ and ü). I type all the lyrics in Microsoft Word, and at the time I am typing all the symbols, etc (True Type fonts) come through, however when they are saved as a .txt files I lose most of the symbols except for the ones that I described in my previous posting.

I, in fact, have produced Julio Iglesias "Hey" in 5 langages (Spanish, English, Italian, Portuguese and German) using KHP, it looks pretty good.

Happy Karaoking
