Videos cause shutdown

I have the latest version of Hoster, Hp Pro, and 500 gb drive. I downloaded about 30 , 30 second or so funny commercials that I could play at random or for filler. I noticed that when I play about 6 ot 7 in a row, Hoster shuts down. Don't know the reason for that. I am curious as to possible reasons why, as I plan to add some video karaoke and would like to avoid shutdwon during A song. Daryl.

What was the error message Daryl?
Is it a specific number or random?
Maybe it is the computer telling you it is getting commercial overload:w:g....just kidding.
Are they all the same type (MPG, AVI, WMV, etc.)?

Do they play in other video players - Media Player, QuickTime, etc.?

Does Hoster shut down or does the computer shut down. If it is the later Videos can tend to make your computer get too hot causing it to shut down. What is the spec of your graphics card, you really need about 128MB on board graphics memory minimum, not shared memory. How much on board memory have you.

Please email one of these files to me at support at mtu.com.

If you can get these to me as soon as you can, we would really like to test this before releasing a new Beta tomorrow. I also called you and left you a message on this.

Bryan, I received your email and phone message. I receive MTU forums on my home computer. I do not use Internet Explorer on my home computer. My service is through Bresnan. I tried to email the file you requested through my karaoke computer, through Internet Explorer. It would not go through. I tried for quite some time. I even tried to send the file to my home computer and then forward it to you. However, Outlook Express does not even recognize me. Sorry I could not get that file to you today. Daryl.

Hoster shuts down, not the computer.

Since you can't get us the file, please answer the above question. It will help us decide what to do.

We are approaching release of 4.10. So far, we have not addressed your files. :e :s

You could also tell us where you got them so we could download and/or buy them to test. Please tell use two filenames we need to get that are known to cause Hoster to crash.

I took my computer over to a guy who runs my karaoke for me when I am not able to. We went through my computer to do updates and cleaning. he had some funny commercials ie: Budweiser commercials ( like 20 second spots ) and such that we transferred to my computer. I use them to fill sometimes for " dead air ", and just for laughs. All of these commercials are available online. It was not any particular commercial which caused the Hoster shutdown; it was apparently playing six or more in a row. It does not shutdown if I play them at random through the night. So, I do not know if they play in another source. Does this help? If you need additional info, please let me know. Question: Does anyone else have Hoster shutdaown after playing several videos in a row? Or, is this unique to me? Daryl.

p.s. I know Sam sometimes uses video. Have you encountered any problems?

None, but I rarely would show 6 in a row. But to check it out I just played a dozen of various formats and duration lengths from a few seconds to a couple of full length vcd karake songs and had no problems except that I noticed that memory and cpu usage went up with each succeeding video, starting at about 53% memory and ending at about 73%. Eventually I would have run out of memory and crashed, but playing a kma and stopping play to give it a rest didn't cause the memory usage to go back down so if that was your problem I would think you'd still crash when playing them throughout the night.

CPU usage creeped up and up with each suceeding video but went way down when switching to a kma or stopping play

None of this may mean anything but it might be interesting to see your results playing several in a row until it crashes with taskmanager open to see what happens when you get to that point.

Sam

Thanks for replying Sam. After I sent my last post, I realized that I should have mentioned that I was playing these short video commercials in the auto mode...as if it was a singers list. Hence, I can see where there was no break, and the the usage would go up. As I stated before, if I play them randomly through the night, I have no problem. ps, the reason I was playing them so many in a row that night, was I had just installed them and everyone was getting a kick out of them. Normally, I would not have played so many in a row. Karaoke does come first. Daryl.

Its bad enough to have commercials on TV at home, but as filler for Karaoke....that's too much.:g
