Sync Issues: Corrections

TO ADMIN: I Have run into a problem and had to figure out how to solve it. When running 4.06 on XP, my second display fired up but not maximized to the monitor, the sync of music to lyrics is off by about 1 second. I shut down 4.06 and fired up 3.4 and went to tools menu / playback offset and adjusted by 1 second. Then closed 3.4 and refired up 4.06 and timing was correct. This needs to be adjustable in 4.0# or in next version but not by changing program venue.

Only real fix is as described. And yes it does change it. I can manuver 4.06 wherever i want sync to be by playing with 3.4. Sounds weird but true. If I change it by 3 seconds it changes it by 3 seconds in 4.06. Fact!

I have tried this and you are correct that it does effect it. However I would not recommend it as a fix, because 3.4 won't be aavailable forever.
Are you using the Old player or the New (Tools/Options)?
Also you didn't list your Video card? It seems that what we have found through the ones who report sync problems is that they are using laptops or video cards with not enough memory. Most laptop video cards use shared memory and not dedicated memory and if the computer has a lot of processes running then they are fighting for memory.

Using New Player. Video built in to laptop. ATI Mobility Radeon X600. It would be nice if this ability to adjust timing were built in to 4.*

You need to try setting the Offfset back to 0 and then try turning off some of the unnecessary services/processes to see if this will get it back in sync.
There have been problems with AVG antivirus program too (don't know which one you are using). Make sure no programs are running in the background that can interfere.
I would not hold my breathe hoping Offset will be restored or will effect future releases at all.

I see that I am not the only one having these issues. It would seem to me that this issue should be resolved in software not hardware. I never had this issue till 4.06 and I have used them all. Same Computer. I have my computer setup under msconfig as selective service with only microsoft services running. Is the program that draining to resources? Yet I never crash while playing.

Yes, it does take a more resources. Every program I have ever had took more resources with every new version. The biggest problem is with the video starving for memory especially on systems with shared memory for video. There are only 2 ways I know to remedy this.
1. upgrade to a better video card with more dedicated video memory
2. trim down your system to maximize what you have.

You say you are running only microsoft services. Which ones? Do you really need remote desktop, IM, internet printing, etc. etc.?

I would send you to an excellent website for this exact issue.

Take the time to read about all the services that are running and the price you pay for each. With this knowledge, you will be able to better decide what you need and don't need.

I would add to what Mark said in that we (users) asked for the new features. New features mean more resources needed. Additionally as we go along in time Microsoft has also added a lot of new features and bigger programs that run in the background.
In other words the only way to resolve your issue is through hardware (which with a laptop you can't or software on your computer and not within Hoster. No you are not the only one, but you are one of the few out of many who are not having sync problems.
The good news is that MTU is going to put back the Offset Control in the next release. I made the case for it for those few who are using laptops and having sync problems. I still say this should be a last resort, though.
