Bad Discs?

:?I just received 7 Sweet Georgia Brown Cds that I bought off Ebay from a reputable dealer. Several of them have a few songs that won't import. I am using XP with a proven Plextor drive. The "importing" sign locks up maybe after importing some songs off the disk and I have to cntrl-alt-del to exit Hoster. I have rebooted and tried to import the next song in order with no luck. These discs have no visual marks on them. A couplel of them have completely imported with no problems at all. I wanted to check with the forum before I contact the seller to see if anyone has a setting fix for this problem. Thanks for any help.

Steve,
Clean the disks with a disk cleaner?
Try setting in Tools/CD\DVD drives to change the read quality down one setting and see if it will go through.
If that won't work see if they will import with Microstudio and then add the tracks from the hard drive.
If that doesn't help contact the dealer and hope he has a replacement, because those are out of production. Sweet Georgia Brown is no longer in business.

If you are using 4.x try importing using 3.4 that comes with it.
Also see what happens when you try adding the song to the playlist via the Disc tab in 4.x or CDG tab in 3.x.

As Dale noted, Microstudio might be your best bet if you have it.
Every once in a while I come across weird tracks like that.

Perhaps you could post the discids and track#'s, maybe others with those same disks could report success or failures with them.

SGB0017, tracks 6,10,11,12,14

SGB0024, tracks 6-12

SGB0019 tracks 7 & 8

Incidently, I cleaned the disc and lowered import quality in tools......neither worked. I have received an email from the vendor and he has invited me to send them back. Says he has sold over 5000 of them since Sep and has had no problems. Must be my luck!!

I have all the sweet georgia browns, never had a problem with them.
they have no protection on them.
what model drive are you using, and what version of hoster. Bob

Steve Bauer December 29th, 2008 11:34 AM

Bob,

I'm using Hoster 4.6 and my Plextor drive is PX-750-UF. I have uploaded several thousand songs to Hoster using this drive without a problem. Oh yes, I'm also using XP.

Bad Discs?

A year ago, I changed over from discs to computer and got an Acer/Vista, which would not import 3 Sound Choice discs...within the first 6 months I had all of the Vista problems and bought another computer with XP Pro, which DID import those 3 discs, however, I exchanged that computer because it didn't have an S-Video in it, and for some reason, those discs had disappeared and when I went to import them into the new Dell/XP... the 3 Sound Choice would NOT import, AGAIN!!! Brian suggested that it's probably the drive in the computer. Unfortunately, you may just have one of those drives and it's not the discs, because they would probably import on someone else's computer! Anyways, that's what happened to me, so now I have a single space plain Karaoke player for those that don't import
and I also use it for the in-between music (but the Karaoke player can't have the DVD and new things in it, because those disc's that won't import, won't play on those machines, either!

If I'm reading your post correctly, it sounds like those disks are MediaCloqued. Those are dificult for most of us to rip and they generally won't play in a karaoke player that plays DVD's.
If SC didn't discontinue them and if they repressed them without the MediaCloque, you can send them back to SC and get them replaced for free (plus S&H)

could you tell us the disc numbers.
and what version of hoster.

Steve Bauer December 31st, 2008 11:14 AM

Bob, I did list the version and disc numbers a couple of posts ago.

Debbie, you may want to explore playing "in between" music from Hoster.....works real good!

Bad Disc's

Maybe Bobcat was asking which of my Sound Choice disc's didn't work (I'm not sure)? Anyways, if you were...they are # 8710, 8713 & 8732.
As far as the in-between music, I've never upgraded to the 4's as I had so many complications with my first Vista and the Hoster, I've stayed safe with the 3.21 in my new computer. A few friends have switched over and they don't like how the face was re-arranged and things were labeled differently. Anyways...at some point I will switch over.
Question...How do you get the in-between music from the Hoster program? Thank you!

SC Mediacloq'd 8700-8735 & a few scattered discs before they pulled it & re-released the discs without it. This would be the reason you can't import these discs. If they are still available (and I just checked & only 8713 is available) you should be able to exchange the disc for the cost of shipping - usually $5.99. You do need to call them first to get an RA code - or at least you do for damaged discs.

Steve Bauer December 31st, 2008 04:25 PM

Debbi, First, I use 4.6......not sure what version the audio was added. I click on "audio" at the top right of the songlist page. Then I choose music files from my jukebox file on drive C (you can use an external drive if you want). When you open the music file, it imports it onto your Hoster songlist page as an "audio only" file that you can play. I guess you can put as many as you want onto the list You can click and drag the audio files and place them between karaoke performances where you need them. I started at 4.04 and am acustomed to looking at this page. Had some problems with 4.5 but 4.6 I really like so far. A lot of great people here will help you if you have problems. I think you will like the ability to play everything from one page!

Look in the inside ring of those disks and see if it has mediacloq written there. I am pretty sure this is the problem. Some drives are able to get around this and some are not.
Version 4.06 has the capability of importing Audio files and adding them to your database. That is how you get your audio songs to play through Hoster.
The early versions of 4.xx Hoster did have a lot of bugs in them, but most people using XP or Vista are not having problems now with 4.06. And 4.10 will be out early 2009 with additional features that were asked for.

bobcox- with the Lord December 31st, 2008 05:25 PM

Debbie,
I have SC8732 mine is multi session, but is not mediacloq.

Bad Disc's

:) Hey....Thanks to all of you for your input, I really appreciate it!
I actually have doubles of the ones that won't copy and the
duplicates won't copy, either....and I believe I did contact
Sound Choice about it...and I can't remember now what they
told me, but I never exchanged it, so I think maybe they didn't
have them...it's been a while and I had so much aggrivation
with the whole Vista 'thing' that I can't even remember much
about that...I just solved it, by buying the one-space karaoke
player! When I finally get around to upgrading to the 4.6, then
I'm hoping they will import! I'm dragging my feet, though, because
I'm not ready for 'change' in my Karaoke! I've finally (after one whole
year) got to a point of things working pretty well...So I'm not anxious
about switching just yet!
Hey....HAPPY NEW YEAR, Everyone!!!!!!

Hey Debbie,
I paid to have a media clogged disc replaced by sound choice and they sent me ANOTHER MEDIA CLOGGED DISC! :m You made the right decision not to deal with then on this point IMHO. :w

swany January 5th, 2009 07:25 PM

I have a plextor that I bought long ago, and it is still chugging along.

It would refuse to import once in a while. My fix is put a disc drive cleaner in it first. Then before you start to import change the drive speed up or down it did not seem to make a difference but it worked.

capnvic January 6th, 2009 05:38 PM

I had several MediaCloq'ed disks from SC 8715, 8613 and a few others. I was able to get with some of my compadres in the business and used their non mc disks to import into Hoster. (I also made copies, knowing I would be unable to get these disks from SC for exchange.) So if you know anyone in the business that may have non media cloqed disks, see if they are willing to entrust you with those disks?
