Maybe YOU can help

It seems that I have to open hoster 2 or 3 times before it stays open. the first couple time i open hoster i get that dreaded box that says Hoster has to close. This is on a brand new dell laptop (2 weeks) using 4.06 with windows xp. Also nothing running in back ground.

Try to uninstall hoster and shut down your computer.Re-start computer and re-install hoster.

That would be a great Idea, But.... i have had so much trouble with registration codes, I know MTU says if you remove the program via internet it frees it up automaticly, but that did not work for me a couple weeks ago. and i was days and days waiting for support.

SystemRestore works also! If this is a new computer & you haven't done anything else to it, Restore it to before you installed 4.06 & start over. Be sure you read what should be "turned off" prior to installation. Also, some XPs work better with WMP-9 instead of WMP-11.

Even NEW computers have to have everything UPDATED before you install anything NEW. They are usually built months before, so be sure you have done ALL Windows Updates also.

If I remember correctly Carl it was not your 4.06 license that was locked but it was the previous version. If you uninstall it (on-line) and re-install it back on the same computer you should not have a problem. I have never had any problem with this and I have to do this all the time as a beta tester. The only problem we run into is when we hit the 100 installs limit, because we do it everytime a new beta is sent to us.
Like Skybird said a new computer is not fully updated and ready for operation. Get the Custom updates first and see if that fixes it, if not then uninstall, etc.

:) Just as an observation, there are a number of tweaks that have to be done with Windows XP on a new computer. I would recommend going through the manual and making sure all those tweaks are done. They do make a difference.:c

I am having the same problem with hoster shutting down since I downloaded 4.06 (no problems running 4.03) I'm running XP sp 3-2gb memory.

Hoster shutdown 8 times in an hour. Most of the time (6 out of 8) it was when I was deleting songs from a playlist.

Any suggestion.

did you update all your windows software ?

Interesting - I had Hoster shut down one time before I upgraded to 4.06 (from 3.321) - then this past weekend I had it shut down one time during a 4-hour show - I panicked because I had entered a lot of sings in the list and some of them actually had disappeared when it started back up again. (The rotation did NOT stick.) I had to go through a pile of slips and figure out which ones were gone and had to be replaced. Hopefully this will not happen tonight with hubby running this show - he gets ticked off really easily by computer snafus. :r

A "HICCUP" problem

I've also noticed with the 4.06 upgrade that I'm getting an almost imperceptible 'hiccup' in a playing song - just long enough that the singer sometimes has time to turn around and glare at me, but then it starts up again. It doesn't skip anything, just momentarily hesitates and then continues. Weird. I'll have to pay attention and see if it is happening when I'm doing something specific. Could be when I'm deleting, but I don't think I deleted but one time during my last show and I noticed this hiccup 4-5 times over the course of 4 hours.

I did all my windows updates before I installed 4.06. I'm still having the tone go off when I get a negative search - if I go into control panel and shut it off, it shuts down ALL the audio. Is there something I need to do to fix this? It's not obvious when a song is playing (unless it's a slow, quiet song) but enough that I cringe when it happens.

I recall doing a lot of (registry?) changes when I first installed Hoster - is this something I need to redo since installing 4.06?

I remember having this same problem with version 2.?? I ended up finding the offending wave file and replacing it with a silent file I recorded in windows recorder. I named it ding.wav or whatever the file was, and just replaced it with the silent one.

Check to see if you have some other programs that are running in the background, that may be taking additional system memory resources. It might be that there is another program such as McAfee or Symantec anti virus, or WMP causing problems? Just Check Task Manager. (right click on the windows toolbar.)

You might want to run a registry cleaner too. Some of these registry cleaning utils are available for a small fee. Something like RegCure would work nicely. Make sure that you backup the registry file before cleaning and fixing....:)

I don't ever run anything else besides Hoster. Will run the registry cleaner. It had started to happen before I upgraded - not sure why. The ONLY thing we use that computer for is hosting. The only time it's connected to the internet is when I do upgrades (once). The only program we run is Hoster but I guess I'll drag it in today and set it up and make sure about that.
