KMA files
 

:?I had 760 songs loaded into Hoster. I downloaded 860 songs into Hoster in addition. I painfully went through and "Hid" duplicates and songs with vocals and now when I create a songbook, I have 663 songs total. I had approximately 80 duplicates and vocals. It seems that I have lost a lot of songs somewhere. Has anyone had this experience and if so, where do I need to look for the seemingly lost songs?

What version of Hoster are you using? What operating system? I don't believe this has been reported since 3.19 in Vista.

In this business I don't guess you can oversimplify. I loaded these disks using 4.05 with XP. My KMA files are located on c:\mtu\kma files. I did a C disk search for KMA and this is the only location that showed up. During the disk load, I got several messages that the disk ID "unknown" was already in use, do you want to use it anyway message. I said yes. Could that have made a difference? I have printed the songbook and done a rough count and the songbook total is close to the manual count.

Since you used "Unknown" for the DiskID, my guess would be that each disc you imported overwrote the previous one.
The question is why are you using "Unknown" and how did it come up that way?

I guess I'll have to cling to ignorance! When I selected the disk brand and put in the disk ID, and clicked on "search online" it found the correct title and artist but at the same time completely changed the brand and ID to unknown. Should I have gone back before importing and re-changed or am I doing this simple process wrong?

The online search will do this to you. Yes you need to re-enter the brand and discid, before you actually import. I would also be sure to look and make sure the titles are correct ("The" or "A" moved to the end with a comma) and that the artist is listed as Lastname first. A lot of the on-line database entries are incorrectly formatted.
I would try the internal search first to see if the disc is listed. If it isn't then use the on-line search, but check the formatting and that it hasn't replaced the brand and diskid.

Now that I have downloaded 50 some odd discs, if I reload them I will have a load of repeats. I searched Hoster for "Unknown" disc ID and got approx. 1 disc, probably the last one I loaded that was marked unknown. Is there anyway to deep from duplicating?

Currently I have 2 laptops loaded with the same files. I have an external hard drive. I currently load the number 1 machine with songs exclusively, copy them to the external drive and then copy/overwrite them to the second laptop from the external. That way I figure if my external drive or either machine goes down, its no big deal.

With my current problem, I think it may be easier to add the 50+ discs to the second machine, delete all KMA files from the number 1 machine and then copy files from the external to it. Does this sound reasonable? Will I need to use the “rebuild database” command after I have transferred new files? I see that in the manual but I have transferred once and it worked without that command.

I would delete through edit the one disc with the "unknown" diskid and re-import all 50 of them.
If you are doing this from one laptop and copying to the second then yes you will have to rebuild the database on the 2nd laptop.

Okay, when I copy all files to the external and hook it to machine 2 and click on rebuild, it will show me the file on "E Book" (the external drive). Do I just choose that file and ignore the one it gives me on the hard drive?

You only want the folder you are trying to list the songs from. I am assuming the external is a back up since you said you have the files on both laptops. If you are not using the external for doing your show then don't rebuild the database with it. Just rebuild with the other laptop internal drive so it can see all the song files.

When I rebuild from one machine to the other, will the songbook exceptions I have built into machine 1 migrate also. I'm talking mostly about the "hide in songbook" command for multiple entries.

I don't think so, but since you would be printing only from one list will that really make a difference?
