Suspect that this may be a bug in hoster 4.05

:?Last Wedsnesday I was accepting song requests while playing some music with Media Player. I started the show, presented my first singer so I continued uploading requests to Hoster playlist, all of a sudden, Hoster stopped and I closed it using task manager. When I restarted it the only singers that I had on Hoster where the ones that were there before I started the show so I had to annoiunce to everyone that I'd lost the requested songs. Never happened something like this before, as soon as something happens with Hoster I restart it and the list was there. Now it isn't...:?

ddouglass October 3rd, 2008 04:41 PM

I just tried this and didn't lose anything that I had added to the list.

rickyrey October 3rd, 2008 04:48 PM

I don't know, I am telling you what happened to me.

Anyways, please tell me how to freeze Hoster to see if I can duplicate the situation.:)

ddouglass October 3rd, 2008 06:41 PM

I can't freeze it, but I did use task manager to close it which would not let it save anything at that point.

thursday night hoster locked up on me 2 times and each time i lost all songs, what did appear was a list of songs w/vocal that i had put up at the begining of the show those songs were deleted an hour before the program locked up. what i mean by locked up is 'hoster has encountered a problem and has to close"

RIckie,

HAve you tryed using the Audio Feature of HOSTER to play our music instead of Media Player, I had this same problem when I first started using HOSTER and I started using the Audio Feature to add my intermission songs to the show and haven't had a crash since. JUST and Idea try it and see if this works for you. HOSTER is a mutli-feature program make those features work for you not against you.:w

I am curious, were these requests imported rather than being in the database? If so that would be why they didn't save to the list.

They were in the database. Glad to hear that I am not the only one with the same situation. The songs that were in the playlist after Hoster crashed were songs that I uploaded to the playlist before starting the show, the ones after I pressed play were gone. I run shows in auto mode.

OK I spoke to soon Ricky This happened to me tonight Hoster Froze on my XP System and when I opened another app. The songs that had already played where back on the screen and the ones that had not been sung yet were gone!! Thank GOD that I have a notebook handy so all I had to do was type in the songs that were missing (this was towards the end of the night) so this was easy to acomplish Had it been earlier in the night I would have had problems figuring out what had been sung and what hadn't. So I am going to try in the morning to recreate what happened and go from there. I know I have all the updates and that It has ran absolutely wonderful until tonight. However only one crash (I GOT LUCKY)

crazycarl October 5th, 2008 09:37 AM

Mine were in the data base, i don't use zip files and i don't import singers discs.

KaraokeDj38030 October 5th, 2008 12:04 PM

Ok I kind of have something figured out I think When running in Auto I found that having to stop to wait on a singer to come up will freeze Hoster, this is what caused my crash last night. not sure why this would cause a freeze, any suggestions.

ddouglass October 5th, 2008 12:18 PM

Did you "Stop" or "Pause"? I tried it both ways and could not get it to freeze.

OneEskalera October 5th, 2008 04:48 PM

When Hoster program freeze, the songs that you added on the playlist will be lost because the hoster will look for the last save state of the program, unless you saved it before it freezes, all the songs will be in the playlist. Like any other program when it freeze it will look for the last saved file.

bigjohn October 5th, 2008 07:44 PM

songs gone

yes same here last week hoster worked ok this week dang. Not so great when hoster would crash before it would keep playlist now when it crashes some old saved playlist shows up now this was a real pain in the butt for rotation and singers songs added wow. Went home to backup PC and even this one that was running fine is really really slow now with what ever I want it to do in hoster.Think i will go back to 3.4 till this all gets worked out to mutch stress not knowing if something is going to work or not.Looks like hoster needs a lot of things set and working right to run properly and even then it can crap out works good for a while then bammmmm lol. To me it looks like the new one window for all . problem or media player well i know at some point this will be corrected but is a lot to go through also this is an xp problem not just vista. Of coarse this is just what i see and maybe wrong but it is in the new because old works.OK for the peed fix i just did a register clean out and speed is mutch mutch better one thing down.

ddouglass October 5th, 2008 08:37 PM

OK. I have been able to recreate this. Additionaly it does not even save the playlist if you close it normally with songs listed in the playlist which it should.

KaraokeDj38030 October 5th, 2008 10:33 PM

STOP/pause

Dale,
sorry I should have gave more detail I had to press stop which it did just that stopped everything lol. I think I am going to try running manual for a bit and see if that does any changing

bigjohn October 5th, 2008 11:13 PM

auto

I have tried it both ways and still at some point it craps out. just another thing to keep an eye on. Out of sink still a problem also but for me not on all songs and use xp home on show machine will try 3.4 and see if i get through the night clean.

ddouglass October 5th, 2008 11:38 PM

Have run two 4 hour shows this weekend without a glitch. We run our shows in manual and only have CDG imported from discs. Have not had any sync problems since the early betas for 4.0.

bigjohn October 6th, 2008 12:52 AM

good to hear

yes must be something at laptops end will find it at some point.

rickyrey October 6th, 2008 01:45 AM

I remember that it happened while I was searching for a requested song. Since I have several versions of songs I don't use the number that the catalog has but instead I tell my customer the different brands that I have. I think that I selected the requested song, now Hoster takes a while to upload to the playlist, the current song ended at that very moment and Hoster stopped responding. I think that it can not handle to finish a song and start the next one at the same time it loads a request to the playlist.:m. Something that will happen to every one of us Karaoke Hosts.

Just as a comment that will lead to another thread, one of the restaurant where I present my show ask me to switch back to Hoster 3.21. At one moment, last night, I restarted a song 5 times, syncronicity issues, with no luck. I had to go back to Hoster 3 included in version 4 which has some issues itself. I will have to uninstall because people are starting to tell me that there are too many mistakes after the upgrade.

Sorry, MTU, I don't mean to disrespect your honest work but Hoster is not working as it used to work.
