upgrades

just tried to upgrade and i am having problems with the registration # matching, i already email support.my question is do you need to uninstall the old version in order to upgrade and to get a new reg. #? got the answer from reading the requirements...have to buy the new version first to get a new reg. #.. ..instead on just downloading..just having problems with my email add & password..

Skybird74 September 29th, 2008 11:42 AM

You only need to uninstall old version (on-line) if you are moving to a different computer. Otherwise, just upgrade. Your e-mail address must match what MTU has on file as what you used when you purchased Hoster. I had that problem when I changed e-mail addresses. I had to update my Account first & then my new e-mail address was recognized when I upgraded.

i thought i had done that ( update my email address )..tried just upgrading but it didnt work..but anyway i think i'll stay with my old version, due to cd/dvd drive problem ( see post demo version )

Skybird74 September 29th, 2008 11:53 AM

It took a while for my new e-mail address to be recognized. So, I used my old address & it accepted it. The next time, it accepted my new one:?

I don't understand why Hoster won't recognize your CD drive. Did you do the Test and Save in Tools? I've had to do that more than once to get it to recognize my drive and maintain that setting.

I don't mean to over-simplify, but sometimes computers seem like "little kids".:t I will set the computer to do something & it just won't do it. Then on the third try, all of a sudden, it does what I tell it to.:r

for some reason it won't recognized both of my laptops cd/dvd drives, ( showing none, and i opened up my comp.hardware tab. and the cd/dvd drive has a yellow exclamation point . )i first tried the 4.3 demo version on my back-up laptop and it did the same, and now tried the 4.4 demo version on my show laptop still the same...both the 4.3 and the 4.4 demo version work on my pc..go figure

thank you for the fix, but i will wait till i get a word from mtu about my other problem ( email /password )..just wondering why hoster can't recognized my cd/dvd though, come to think of it , i posted the same problem a while back , my friend has the same problem before i did and no one seemed to believed( i didnt either ) that it was happening, she ended replacing the cd/dvd drive and she never upgraded...

Hoster not recognizing your drive is one thing. But, when there is an "exclamation point" next to it in Device Manager, then it is a computer-related problem, not "software". MTU can't fix that.

ok, but why would it work on the old version....and other people had the same problem ( they probably didnt check the hardware tab , tha't why they didnt see the yellow exc. point )

Skybird74 September 29th, 2008 12:41 PM

Sorry I don't have an answer for that, but it could just be a coincidence. Maybe the driver need updating to handle the software:r
Hoster recognizes my drive, but it's a Matshita LightScribe that simply won't recognize CDGs. It will only upload audio.

I feel your pain, but;:f
This is a known bug, the fix is from MS. Various softwares trigger it and apparently the demo version of Hoster triggers it. I have had to use this fix each time a new version of the demo has come out. (starting with 4.0) and it only does it on my dell machine. I have had other software installs do the same thing, sound forge 9 is a good example. So if you wait for MTU to fix it, it might be a long wait.

You can fix it now and get your CD drive back, but you will probably have to do it again after you load the Hoster demo. The full version of Hoster does not do this, only the demo(in my experience). So if you are going to load the full version, go ahead and fix it.

i already did a system restore, and i got my drive back i tried to removed the demo program, but it wouldnt let me untill i removed the prior version ( which is the older full version ) i didnt wanna do it since it might require me to re-set my reg..but anyway just waiting for mtu to fix my email add/password..and if this problem only occurs in demo version, then i might not have to do anything other than install the full 4.4 version..thanks for your help i appreciate it..
