Portable hard drives

Does anyone use the portable hard drives that connects with usb power without an external power supply and if so are they fast enough to play with Hoster?

My present external hard drive is 7200 rpm and works fine, i'm not sure what speed the portables run at.

If I'm not mistaken laptop HD's also run at 5400 rpm. I know people who use the usb powered drives and don't have any problems.

As an unrelated side note:
I use an externally powered HD with my laptop which is 7200 rpm. Every once in a while it will connect as usb 1 instead of usb 2. When it's in usb1 mode it can take a good 5 seconds for songs to cue up but otherwise runs OK. I have to reboot to get it to connect properly.
