mp3-g and hoster
 

I have an external hard drive with 115,000 mp3G's I want to incorporate these songs into hoster......I notice a tab under add track named mp3g. I hit this tab and it directs me to a folder location...yada yada yada....I have all my discs in order as they are with my .kma files.....how can I import these mp3g files into my hoster and use both? will hoster read the ID tag on the mp3g and give me the info to make a database???? please explain how I can use both .kma and mp3g files and have them both in a data base? Have I lost you yet? I would like to use hoster instead of running off and buy another product

What version of Hoster?
Do you have these files already in KMA format in Hoster or are these new never imported files?
Are you talking about "ImportSongs/Import Hard Drive Files" when you are saying "add track"?
No Hoster does not read the MP3 ID Tag. The files usually are named with at the least Title and Artist where you will have to supply the brand and diskid. If your files have the Brand, Diskid,Track, Title and Artist then it will be easy because all the information needed is there.
When you import the MP3Gs into Hoster it creates a KMA file of it with a bookid and becomes part of the list as well as being added to where ever you have your KMA files.

so would it be easier to just buy another product that will import and cataloge the mp3g files......converting 115,000 to kma will take eons??

Actually the conversion time is 3-4 seconds per file. Any program is going to take a long time cataloging 115,000 files for playing and I don't think you would be happy with it. The process doesn't change the file itself, but adds a KMA header to the file so Hoster can identify it. If you add one to the playlist (after it is imported) it will list as an HDMP3 file.
Are these files MP3+G karaoke song files or MP3 audio music files?
How are the individual files named?

If they are going to go that route, MTU's Songverter is a much better program but it's not free. :r

I have an external hard drive with 115,000 mp3-g's and zip files.....all my discs are in order with my kma files.......I am lost on what to do with these files....if i ever learn to convert them to kma files......does the program assign each batch of songs a disc number???? the files contain name artist and disc number (e.g. phm2007-01-keith urban-i told you so) how should I deal with this?

If the file name is set as you say you can use the Import HDD files and then check the format (order of data) on the left side. Make sure the seperators you have are the ones listed in the blanks for them. Read the manual on importing from hard drive and it will tell you exactly what you need to do to accomplish this.

I would be very careful about converting these as a batch. I have made that mistake before when I lost my entire system and backup to an act of God. I didn't take the time to re-import one disc ID at a time because I thought it would save time. I have been dealing with the problems created ever since. Even though I thought all my file names were spelled correctly and formatted the same, I was WRONG WRONG WRONG. I have finally set down this last month and spent some 100 hours correcting all the mistakes. In hind sight, it would have been much easier to do these one disk at a time to make sure that everything was correct. Especially now that Hoster has an updated database to lean on.

should I take the mtu file converter and convert all these zips and mp3 g files into .kma files first? if so..lets say I had chartbusterxxx and that disc was in a zip file....do I take tha folder and those songs all at once and add a disc ID to it? and then repeat the same with all the other discs that were converted to zip files? I caling them zip files becasue when I open the folder on the disc title I get folders with zippers on themand when I open them then I get two different files.....I dont mean to be sounding incompetent but all this zip and mp3g is all new to me......please help the helpless :g I have yet to upgrade to 4.03 from the last 3x version....does 4.03 convert the zipfiles?

If you upgrade to 4.03, there would be no need for Songverter. I was only suggesting that you import one "Disk" at a time to make sure the info is correct. By "Disk" I mean sc8934-01 thru sc8934-15. Each disk ID will yield one base book ID # followed by a track #. Check each "Disk" one at a time to make sure the title, song name, spelling, last name first etc are all consistent. This will take longer but will work much better in the long run.

There is a batch command button in the import screen that will import thousands of files un-attended but will not check for any inconsistencies in the file names.

1. Run Hoster

2. Read the manual on the Import Songs > Import Hard Drive Files screen

3. Click the Import Songs menu item on the Menu Bar

4. Click the "Import hard drive files" command

5. Marklwood is recommending you use SINGLE not BATCH, and continue from there. As you make selections in this screen, extensive instructions appear for each phase. However, you should read the manual first. This is a HIGHLY FLEXIBLE screen, which means there are lots of choices you can make. That's not a bad thing, but you MUST know what you are doing before you try to make those selections. Thousands of users have found the manual helps them use this screen. :w

Basically, I agree with Marklwood. If you have 115,000 MP3G files, forgive me if I'm wrong, but you probably didn't import them from CDG discs you own, and probably have a WHOLE BUNCH that you have no idea where they came from, or what FIELDS their filenames contain.

What Marklwood is saying, is IN your fiilenames that Hoster WILL USE to identify the fields we need (DiscID, Track, Artist, Title), if the filename data is wrong, your Songbook and your Songs Database will have this wrong data. However, as he also indicated, you can use Hoster's Tools menu > Edit Songs command and correct the imported files... when you find the wrong data.

If you think about this, any program that will try to "categorize" your 115,000 files will also need correct data. Garbage in, garbage out. Your choice: clean up while importing, or clean up later.

Edit Songs has a powerful SEARCH capability that can find all your songs in the Songs Database based on individual fields and order them by Artist, Title, DiscID, etc. so that may help you find "misspelled" fields faster. Edit Songs "Play Next" button automatically saves any changes you made to the prior song.

Also, it has "Select Single" and "Select Multiple" buttons, so if you have a number of files that need the same correction, you can do that too. It's very flexible.

At some time, you've got to pay the piper to get your files into shape to index, find and use them. :r

I tried downloading a demo of 4.03 to read the new manual....all i got were a bunch of error boxes poping up when I installed and ran the demo.....lets say Ione of my folders is charbusert monthly####.... its one disc with the songs being a zip file these zips all have the info u mentioned same disc ID..etc ...can I import them all as a batch and assigning the same book ID to them? They will automataclly be converted to kma files through 4.03...or should I convert them all to .kma through converter?

If they all have the same diskID then they will have the same base bookid. and yes Hoster will create the KMA file for you and save it where you have assigned as your save folder.
