Understanding 4.02

:?I'm trying to understand the 4.02 upgrades.

1) I find the following very confusing. Can someone explain this in more simpler terms for me?
NEW Options... "Include Songs Database" In Auto Complete Lists - This check box enables using your imported Songs Database Title and Artist names. When disabled, only the Import Local Database is used to create the Title and Artist lists for the Edit Songs, Import CD Tracks and Import HD Files screens. When disabled, this will present the MTU standard Artist and Title names, and build MUCH FASTER. You still have unique "Auto-Complete" options in the 3 screens to disable building and using the lists at all.
2) Import Video - I thought this would be in 4.02 for sure:f I have been waiting all year for this to be able to re-do my songbooks. I know there have been other issues, but this was promised to be included with 4.0 when it was first supposed to be released in May:?
3) 4.02 says we can now export & print the Singers Database. But what about the ability to Print a Playlist. This is how we saved our Singers' songs for the past couple years while waiting on a Singers' Database!!!!! I feel these requests were more important than some of the "fancy" upgrades to the Show Display screen!!!!:?:?:?

AUTO COMPLETE IS ADDED SO WE DON'T HAVE TO TYPE AS MUCH. :w

MTU WANTED 4.0 TO BE ABLE TO IMPORT VIDEO BUT VISTA IS TURNNING OUT TO BE A PAIN IN THE BUTT TO WORK WITH. THEY HAD TO STOP HOSTER FROM HANGING UP OR CRASHING FIRST. IMPORTED VIDEOS ARE NO USE IF THE PROGRAM WON'T RUN RIGHT. :e

MTU CHOOSES THE ORDER IN WHICH FEATURES GET WRITTEN INTO HOSTER. (PERSONALLY I HAVE NO REASON TO PRINT A PLAYLIST.) ANY REQUEST MADE BY A HOSTER USER IS IMORTANTNT AND WILL BE ADDED TO THE PROGRAM AS DEVLELOPMENT ALLOWS. MOST OF THESE FEATURES WERE INTENDED TO BE IN THE PROGRAM BY NOW BUT VISTA HAS BEEN TAKING ALL OF MTU'S TIME, THANK YOU MICROSOFT! :r PLEASE CONTINUE TO BE PATIENT.

I hope this helps.

MADJIM - I understand what "Auto complete" is! I am trying to understand what I have "underlined". What is the difference in the Artist & Title names when this feature is "enabled/disabled" as explained.

P.S. Some of the features I have been waiting on were promised a couple years ago, so Vista was not an issue.

I'm sorry to disagree with you but Vista had slowed down the development of Hoster tremendously. If Vista had been easier to work with, MTU would have more features written into Hoster by now. Vista has forced MTU to move down a path they never exspected (or wanted) to be on.

With All Respect.

Jim, I am not disagreeing with you. Yes, VISTA has surely been a pain in everyone's "_____". However, I am referring to some of the features that were promised a couple years ago and could have been added, long before there was a Vista to deal with!!!:r

Here is what the manual says:

When (Check Box) is disabled, populating the lists for the Title and Artist drop down fields in Edit Songs, Import CD Tracks and Import HD Files only used the Local Database, which is much faster.
When (Check Box with check in it) enabled, this searches your Local Database and your Songs Database to add your custom song Titles and Artists to the lists.
Whether the lists are used or not can be disabled in each screen; Edit Songs, Import CD Tracks, or Import HD Files.

Sky,

All feature requests that ware on the list to be added to Hoster got set back because of the time MTU had to spend with Vista. 4.02 runs on Vista, now MTU can get back on track. :c

As the developer, MTU decides which features get added in what order. There are alot of factors that have to be concidered. After using Hoster five nights a week for years I'd say MTU knows what they are doing. Please be paitent, they are a small company which helps keeps Hoster afordable. :w

Sorry I'm being such a "dunce" on this one!:s I must have a mental block or maybe I'm not asking the right question:r I still don't understand the difference between the 2 different databases used (one when enabled, the other when disabled)??? And why is one faster than the other? I especially want to understand what is the difference in the way the Title & Artist are listed?

When using the Edit Song feature, the Import CD Tracks feature or the Import HD Files feature which now have Auto-Fill, Hoster has to compile the list of choices that show up in the drop down menus.

When the box is checked, hoster only reads the Local Database information which is fastest. When the box is checked, it reads the Local Database and the Songs Databse which takes twice as long. This just means you have to wait longer for the window to open. :r :w

I have not had the time to work with this feature yet. Just click on it and then open one of the three windows mentioned, it won't hurt anything. :t :r :w

P.S. Some of the features I have been waiting on were promised a couple years ago, so Vista was not an issue.

I'll use Import CDs tool as an example, but all three tools are effected the same way. If you have opened the Import screen put a disc in and enter the required info and click add tracks. When the tracks are added you notice some of the titles or artists are wrong or missing. To edit the information in a block (title or artist) you Right Click to highlight that blocks text and this opens a drop down listing of all the possible choices. If you start typing the listing changes to match what you are typing so that you don't have to type the whole thing but just enough to get the one you need or you can scroll to the correct information if it is available.
This drop-down list is created from the Local database (Bucket) and from your Songs database. You can make this load faster by unchecking the referred to box which will make it only use the Bucket to populate the list.
I don't think that MTU has ever promised any specific added capabilities. They have always said they will look at it and see if they can do it. And if so then it will be added to the list of items to be included in a future upgrade. Considering that the things you are asking for do not have a whole lot of support from the rest of the users as being something they would use I am pretty sure that the priority assigned to those requests have a low priority. That is all I will say on the subject.
As far as the video being included that should be soon. As Jim said it and a few other things have had to be pushed back because of the time and cost of having to fight with Vista. There are only so many man-hours in the day and Vista has MTU running around in circles.

Skybird76, I answered your question about "Why" in a prior thread. You should have an email from that one, if you have visited that Thread each time you receive a notice (part of the Forum scripts - it won't send a second email notifying that a post has been made, if you haven't visited since the last email for that Thread was sent to you.) I don't remember which Thread as I've been answering MANY since 3AM. :r

THANK YOU!!!!!! Yes, I have been reading the Threads as they come & sometimes spend a couple hours just going through all the new posts to see what other users are saying! There has been so much, that it has been hard to digest and understand everything, especially the more technical aspects. You also answered me in great length in another Thread for which I also THANK YOU. Yes, I did feel like I was being ignored for a while, but now I understand. Sorry..... I didn't mean to be another "thorn" in your side!!:s
