old version of hoster

just talking to a friend of mine who does karaoke show too, she still has the old version 3.? ( i dont know what version she has ), she never had a problem with it, ( i guessed that's why she never upgaded to any version ), now she just got a new laptop and wanted to upgraded, she downloaded the demo version 4.0 and now ( this is what she told me ) after downloading, she imported a song, played it , played the whole 20 sec. of the song, imported another song , cd/dvd drive quit working, she took the laptop to be repaired and now she wants to know if she could still install the old version on her laptop for back-up ( she only had hoster installed in one comp. )

Since it is a new laptop I am guessing she has Vista on it and the answer is no.
3.316 - 3.321 are the only 3.xxx versions that will work on Vista. And of course she doesn't want to use 3.318 or 3.319 because of the lost files problem those two had.
Just because the CD drive quit working is not an indication that Hoster cause the problem. If 4.01 demo worked why go back to an old version that isn't supported any more and will not work with Vista?

it's not a vista, it's one of the laptops you can order from dell , before they ( dell )decided to stop selling xp, and she asked for xp, so the old version that she has, is not supported anymore? what if she upgraded to 3.317 from her old version, would 3.317 still be supported or not anymore?

What version exactly does she have? It is hard to answer these questions without knowing exactly what version we are dealing with.
How is she going to upgrade to 3.317 if it is no longer sold? She can't use your registration. When I say not supported I mean you can no longer download (if needed) or purchase the older versions.
If she has XP then her old version will install and work. She will probably have to submit a support ticket to get her registration reset though. And be connected to the internet to install it.

I would tend to believe it was a defective drive (even if it worked perfectly fine before) before assuming Hoster caused the problem. That was more than likely a coincidence, no one else has reported any such problem.

i dont really know what she have, she out doing a show tonight and she said she'll cal me back tomorrow, my mistake i thought all prior versions would still be on the dowload site..i wasnt thinking right ( had to do a private show last night )but anyway, no i wont let her use my reg. even if she could, i need that reg, caused i'm about to email mtu to see if they could still re-set mine , i'm about to get a new hhd as soon as i get a chance ( busy loading new songs that i just bought from itunes)) i had to install my cloned 250gb hhd. on my back-up laptop..

Billyo, I just re-read you first post. She does not need to install the old version she has as back-up which can't be installed with 4.01 anyway. Version 4 has 3.4 (3.321 set up for 4.0 reg code) included so she has a back-up that way. I have used it several times during the beta testing to finish a show when something went wrong. That is if she goes ahead and orders it.
She should be able to install the old on her back-up laptop. Even if she has installed on one computer the MTU registration computer may think it has been installed on two (happens sometimes). In that case she will need to submit the support ticket. She will need to be connected to the internet to install though since the floppy disk and flash drive install capability is no longer used.
