Hoster 3.321 locking up following video

A few weeks ago my wife was using hoster 3.3 at a show and mentioned the program locked up after using a video from another program.

As some of you may already know, I use virtual DJ for the videos and audio w/slide shows before the Karaoke portion of the show begins about 45 minutes later, as she was doing. We have learned that anytime after playing a video from VDJ, we have to deactivate the video (second display) screen within the VDJ program, as VDJ somehow has priority over the second monitor. If we don't, we get (and expect) a Hoster crash. Hoster locks up and reports a "crash and must close" error after hitting the play button to begin a karaoke song.

What is happening now, but is hard to duplicate as it seems random, that even after we Deactivate the second display video from VDJ, hoster still may crash sometime,. almost as if the VDJ program didn't fully Deactivate its second monitor, although she saw the Hoster SND on the second display.

I'm sure this is not entirely Hoster's fault, or maybe not even at all, but can someone fill me in with what may be happening from one program to the other. Obviously a weird conflict is going on between the two programs, which we understand and thought we had control over.

All you need todo is press Ctrl V before starting Hoster program to deactivate VDJ control of Video monitor. :) Joe....

Yes,
I do that now, or hit the video tab, or use the deactivate button in the congig, all those De-activate the video. My problem is that there are some times even after I do this that Hoster will crash and give the same error as if I had not done it.

My question is, is something else going on now, either with Hoster or VDJ, or some conflict I need to know about?

This is what I am dealing with now?:c

The other problem that may be causing this is 1gig Mem is not enough you will need 2 gigs Mem or more would be even better. what rpm is your hard drive?

7200 rpm internal, and the machine that it is happening on is 2 Gb, with a dedicated 256 Mb video card.

Any other ideas, can there be some kind of memory leak in the VDJ slideshow plugin?

Joe Nieves July 26th, 2008 05:19 PM

Well are all your other music and video programs working fine with no problems?

If thay are all working fine then maybe it cauld be that Hoster video may not work on all computers I have 4 Gig Ram and nVidia card with 512 video ram and hoster still crashes on me so I stopped using it and stick to my VDJ program.

I'm having a problem with Hoster staying on my default sound card E-Mu 1616m when I plug in my hercules MK2 controller after using VDJ it automaticly swithes to the MK2 card instead.

When will Hoster and Microstudio be able to assign the audio card?

ddouglass July 26th, 2008 05:28 PM

Joe it sounds like your MK2 takes control and becomes the default audio card when it is plugged in overriding the normal default.
Check you Sound settings in the control panel with the MK2 plugged in and I bet playback is set to that card.

My problem is different than this however.

It is completely understood why Hoster ceashes when VDJ has priority over the secondary monitor, and that is why I need to deactivate the video in VDJ, but lately, even when I do that (deactivate video in VDJ), sometimes Hoster STILL RANDOMLY acts the same way (crashes because video is NOT deactivated in VDJ, when in fact It is.)

I'm just wondering what could cause this condition for Hoster to think the VDJ video is NOT deactivated, when in fact it is?
Bryant

Joe Nieves July 27th, 2008 11:56 AM

Simple

Do any other video program you have in your system crash the same way when you use them?

If not them the problem is with Hoster. I have experienced the same problems you have and all my other programs with video operate normally.

All I can share with you is my own personal experience maybe MTU will fined a solution eventually. Joe..... :f

Can It Happen?

Hi Bryant

I checked the control panal and it's set to asio driver for my E-MU 1616m sound card not the MK2 sound card all my other audio programs don't have this problem thay all run on the default sound card and do not switch to my MK2 sound card when plugged in Only Hoster and MicroStudio?

Any chance of Hoster and Microstudio getting a assignable sound card option?

This would be a BIG PLUS because then you are able to assign 1st Hoster to main sound card and the 2nd Hoster to another sound card for cueing or having the added feature of letting someone hear the song before they sing it you don't know how many times this was requested.

Thx Joe....

ddouglass July 27th, 2008 03:46 PM

Joe I know that it has been mentioned before and is supposed to be in the specs for future addition. Both programs have to be reworked with a new player that will have a lot more capabilities than even the existing set up according to Admin.

Joe, Microstudio 4.006 already has this now. :)

As soon as we finish Hoster 4.02 running reliably on Vista, we'll finish intigrating our new Sound Manager technology, already about 90% done and used in Microstudio. SoundMan in Hoster will provide at least these functions:

1. Choose the Output Audio Port the Playlist plays through.

2. Assign a new Play function in the Search menu to a different Audio Port to allow previewing a song before adding it to the Playlist. Could you assign a different port to a second Hoster copy running? Don't know, but my guess would be no as they would both use the single instance of the Hoster Registry Keys. If we didn't make the port selection "persistent" it may work, but the new Search-Play function an port assignment is designed to do this. :w

3. Crossfade one playing track out while the next one fades up

4. Play Instabuttons with MP3 and WMA and Video (11 formats currently supported) simultaneously with the Playlist song now playing. Hoster 4.00 allows one .WAV file assigned to an Instabutton to play at the same time as a Playlist track.

5. Have (target design goal) 10 simultaneously playing audio files, auto-mixing so no one amplitude swamps out the others.

.... more I'm sure, but I'm running from memory right now. :t

NOTE: We will be activating Hoster's Intermission View "Play Videos" option in V4.03, so you may no longer need your VideoDJ to do this. :)

This weekend, our beta testers and programmers identified there is a problem when Hoster's Show Display (Lyrics, Intermission, Audio DJ, Video VJ 4 views) is moved to the second display/TV. Under some now identified conditions Hoster can crash. I expect that is what Bryant is seeing that is mentioned here.

We will work on this first thing this morning, expecting a fix by Tuesday eve for beta testing. We believe this is "THE" problem that has been plaguing Hoster 4.0x for some time. We're on it! :g

<DIR>Thank you very mush for your reply

Under Record Settings select audio card option in Microstudio
I think this is setup for Input Not Output because when I plug in my MK2 Hercules controller the output go’s to my MK2 controller sound card
not the selected card E-DSP Wave (6000).

I don’t have this problem with my VDJ program.
Now I’m trying to be objective here explaining only what I experience.

So doing what you explained to Hoster would have the same results?

In Microstudio when ripping a CDG Disc. The music skips playing the same beat twice and the lyrics don’t sweep across screen.

In Microstudio when ripping a CD Disc. The music skips playing the same beat twice before it proceeds to the next section of the song.

In Hoster I can rip a CDG or CD with no problems. (Audio files have Kma Ext not Wav?)

All this while using my E-MU 1616m PCMCIA sound card.

Thank you for listening,
Joe…..

Joe, are you talking about Importing them and then playing them from the imported file or are you playing them directly from the CD?
When you import any file into Hoster they are wrapped with a KMA header which lets Hoster know where and what type of file it is. If you add those audio files to the playlist you will see in the last column "HDAUD" designating that it is an audio file.

Joe Nieves July 29th, 2008 07:18 AM

Hi ddouglass

Yes the files that I am talking about are imported files and I am not playing them from a CD.

My Problem here is that MicroStudio doesn't import them properly and Hoster does. What is happening?

My other issue is that MicroStudio sound card option is not working properly?

I gave some examples in my previous post, can this be fixed.

Thanks Joe.....

ddouglass July 29th, 2008 10:49 AM

Have you tried another drive? I have run into this with a Plextor drive of mine that is about to go to the trash heap. It started with bad imports and has progressed now to not even reading the TOC on disk. It has out lived its useful life (6 years).
If this is something Microstudio is doing I am sure MTU can fix it. When they get Hoster to a clean working point I believe MS is next to get some work done on it, so it won't be too far down the road.
I have only one sound card so I am not sure how the option works for choosing which to use. I think the "Record" option is supposed to work for both recording and play. I can't imagine having it set to record through one sound card and play through another. That could get hairy.

Joe Nieves July 29th, 2008 05:25 PM

Hi ddouglass

My computer is a MicroExpress JFL92 2.6 Duo only 3 months old and have no problems with it in Hoster as far as the drive go's I import singers CDG and audio and can play them with no problems.

I also have a plextor PX716 UF drive that I will try tonight after my studio session and get back to you tomorrow and let you know if it helped.

Thank's for your help
Joe....
