Stopping song just stops graphics, music continues on for a while

Has anybody had this one. When I stop (usually the first song I play) the song, the graphics disappear, but the audio continues, sometimes for a fews seconds and sometimes to the end. The program is effectively frozen till it quits playing the audio. The only way I have been able to get out of this is by ctrl-alt-del and shutting program down.

This is an intermittant occurance. I have explorer 7 and sp3 and media 11. My computer is a dell inspiron with a 1.7 mghz processor with 2 gigs or ram running on xp home. I just use the onboard video and audio cards so not totally sure what they are. Have not yet attempted using second monitor. Will try that at next show. Haven't yet done a show because trying out new program first to make sure I won't have issues at a show.

did you upgrade to 4.01 ?

ddouglass July 23rd, 2008 08:21 PM

Check Dell support to see if there are any updates for your video and audio.

MTU has been addressing the issues with starting and stopping in every beta and it's getting better. :w :g The next beta will be available for us to test this evening. It seems to be related to the newer versions of Windows Media Player.

I've been running my shows with Hoster 4.XX ever since the program was released and then some (last night with 4.02 beta 2), overall it's doing a great job. What I do that seems to help is play the first song at a very low volume (or with no volume at all) to check and see if it's running in sync and to give the program a chance to reset itself.

Next to getting Hoster Vista ready, this is a top priority issue. They'll get it here soon, please be patient. :r :w :c :)

I have had this problem with WMP since ver10 on my desktop at home. Ocasionally I have to alt-ctrl-del and force close to quit playing a video before it ends. It doesn't happen enough for me to have nailed it down yet, but I do think it is WMP and not Hoster that is hanging.

This happens to me on both machines, sometimes it will play for 15 seconds after stop.

Hoster needs windows media player to run correctly. I DO NOT USE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, EVER. It's hogs too many resources in my opinion and there are better programs out there for running MP3's. (I use SAM party DJ for my MP3's)

WMP and Going Bald

I too had similar snags. When Stopping Song The Singers Display would switch off but the preview display kept showing the song playing and highlighting the lyrics.
I not only had all of the windows updates but all updates for my laptop installed. My Driver Agent Program showed 0% for old or BAD drivers.

Hoster 4.01 would play and when I would go back to see if 3.4 was working the graphics were all screwed up.

The going bald part---

I was pulling my hair out because every time I thought I had my updates and drivers and Hoster installed and running properly I would have some new video or audio issue.

Finally during a snag I hit CTRL ALT DEL and found WMPNETWK. Using 100% of my CPU. Un Installed WMP11 which reverted back to 10. When opening WMP it started as a fresh install so I didn't bother and everything worked just fine.
Finally I reinstalled WMP 11 as a Custom Install and did not allow sharing of media or any pop up that asked about the network.

SO FAR SO GOOD

On my show computer I have WMP 11 installed, but have never opened it and set it up, so none of those background processes (wmpnetwk) run at all. This has kept the problems to a minimum. Unfortunately if you have ever set it up as I have on my home computer then even uninstalling it and re-installing doesn't help because those settings are stored in the registry and will re-insert themselves. Turning off the sharing of media in it does minimize some of the interference from its processes but they are still there and eating up memory and some processor time.

Wmp

Thanks for the info Dale.
With hosters new feature I intend to convert all of my wma 's to kma's and just use Hoster to play music.(Therefore not having to open WMP and allow it to set up anything)
I have used Hoster as a hybrid for some time now such as my family picnics where there is a lot more interest in listening to music than getting up and "embarrassing" yourself.:w

I just set the auto play delay to 0 and the songs seem to take off one after another quite nicely. Of course I do like the crossfade effect a little better but not enough to switch between the two epescially since it is still to come.

We have been working very hard on the sync of the lyrics and audio, and between the Preview Display and the Show Display. We'd fix it for XP and Vista would break. We'd fix it for Vista and XP would break. I finally dictated that we copy the "player" code, insert a switch for whether XP or Vista was running, and fix the XP problems in its player, and the Vista problems (and may are they there!!!! :f) in its player. That solved a lot of problems.

We expect to release 4.02 Beta 8 today for our testers with this all fixed. We found some nasty bugs lurking around and will fix the last one today. All the sync problems appear to now be fixed. :c

This problem should be fixed now.

What "Driver Agent Program" are you using? Please post it here. It might be something we can recommend to users. As you know, it is impossible to know what you need to do to "clean up" your computer, drivers. etc. I ran Belarc Advisor recently and was innundated with so much techno garbage that I passed on reading beyond the first page. If there is a program that tells you whether your video drivers, audio drivers, motherboard drivers... yada yada yada are up to date, I'd buy that in a heartbeat! :c

Driver Detective is a useful tool to have. Let me know if it's suitable.:)

Do you pay, if so how much?

Had it been worth it to you?

Thanks

Works out at around $29 or extend your updates to 24 months for an extra $9.95. It's quick and easy and I thought it was worth it. Give it a go and try a free scan.:)

Driver Agent

Ok.
First of all my support ticket from MTU advised I update my video and audio drivers. When I did a Google Search for Driver Updates Several Programs appeared to do a Free Scan of your computer. Then when you wanted to download them they wanted you to buy there software. The title of the one I bought was Driver Agent I believe the manufacturer is touchstone software. I chose this particular one after letting a few of them run the scan and DriverAgent Seemed to have the most information listed.(I'm no tech but you name it if it's in your computer they show a status for it.)
When I finally decided to part with my $30 I was surprised to see that the license allowed installation on 10 Computers. Therefore being able to update my back up computer and any future computers I may purchase.

It definitely was worth while to me. They also included as a gift Undelete which I then used to recover a fie from my wifes computer which had mistakenly been erased because of a Virus w/ similar name to a config file.

Also free Live Tech support is included.
Instant Access to 1,069,370 Driver Update Files

DriverAgent by TouchStone Software.

Hope this might help some folks and answer your question without too much mumbo jumbo.:t
