CD burner issue

this isn't a hoster-specific problem, but i thought you folks might have some insight into it anyway.

the burner is a plextor px-230a

it will burn discs, and they always seem to work fine except for one thing: they won't play in a karaoke machine. data and audio discs work fine. karaoke discs work fine with hoster and microstudio. if i take them to a karaoke machine, the discs either won't load or the audio will play but no graphics will display.

the machine has a sempron 3200 cpu, 2gb ram, radeon 7200 display adapter. the drive is internal atapi, with winxp pro.

i was able to make discs with this machine fine, but at some point in the not-too-distant past i started having this problem.

any analysis welcome.

I suggest that you may go to the plextor website and see if you have the latest firmware updates for the CD ROM Drive. You can check the firmware version in the drivers>properties window in Device Manager.

It could also be the ASPI. If you are running the Adaptec ASPI Layer software, you might want to uninstall it from your computer. You really don't need it with Video Hoster.

If that don't work, revert to the original drivers for the CD ROM drive.

A couple of thoughts that may or may not apply.

It could be that the karaoke machine doesn't like burnt disks. Some older machines won't play them or can't read the graphics. I've noticed on my players through the years that they would play them fine when the machines were new but as they aged they would have more an more problems with them, especially the graphics. Try the disks on other machines.

Also it's my understanding that cdr's made for data don't work as well as cdr's made for audio, but I'm not sure they make this distinction anymore.

Also just in case, most karaoke players won't play cdg on rewritable cdr's period, even though they often will work for VCD (if your machine supports VCD).

I have 3 players that did this as well. Machines age, their lasers start dying & won't read the burns as well - 1 player quit reading them altoghter. I clean them regularly.

It also could be something to do with the Plextor burner itself, may have got bumped out of alignement where it will playback on the same burner but not on another machine.

when i was troubleshooting this the other day, i made two discs with the plextor burner. i used microstudio to make one of them, and power cd+g burner to make the other one. neither would play on my little karaoke machine.

then i tried making discs with an external lite-on drive, which worked fine, and with the HP drive in my other computer, which also worked fine.

get rid of the plextor and your headache will be gone :g

Yep it sounds like the Plextor has gone south. However, if it still reads the song files in ok, then just set it for read only in Microstudio.

Also make sure you are using CD-R media and NOT CD-RW. Many players will not read rewritable discs.
