Lossing audio for singer when "search" is hit

Just getting started, a real rookie but liking the Hoster software with one problem so far. As a singer is singing, if I click the "search" button to find a song for another singer, I get a half second drop in the audio for the current singer.

Any ideas or helps?

I would guess it's a lack of resources for your computer to work with (ram, processor etc) but that would be specutation

I'm helping out a friend so not totally sure. I do know it is an Acer laptop running Vista which I'm seeing here is not such a good idea. Guess I'll wait for 4.0 to come out to see if that cures the problem. Until then, have to do my seaches between singers and on breaks.

To start with you are having a problem that could be simply non existant. Just leave the search window open. Drag it down out of the way when you are not using it. I leave my Hoster, Hoster Search, Media Player, Dj songs list, and Dj songs search open during a gig. No problems.

:) Just a thought and you may already be doing this. I also use a laptop but it is a Toshiba with 1.5 g of ram and good old Windows XP. I turn off anything that might be using resources. I disable my wireless connection, turn off my antivirus. Turn off Windows Defender. Basically anything that is using resources and not needed for the show. Hope this helps.

It is not opening the search window that causes the problem. I pick a song or artist in the search box and it is when I start that search I get the drop in audio. Search works fine, gives me the results and I can then type in the new singers name, pick the song and add it to the playlist without any further problem, it just happens when I hit the search button in the search dialog box.

I know that I will probably take some guff for this but........I hit Alt-Ctrl-Del and find Hoster in the list of running processes. Right click and change priority to High. No skips in audio or any other problems have surfaced since I did this.

Are you setting it to "High" or "Real Time"?
Is 3.321 not set to "High"? I just checked the Hoster 4.0 beta I have currently installed on this machine and it is already set to high.

It is set to high. Not sure if it was already there or not. It is always just on my mental list when I do an install. The first Hoster computer I had was a 700mhz Duron and needed to be "tweaked" a little to run solid. Stripping the unneeded crap and turning off everything I can is just SOP now.

This is occurring on two different systems we have, both running the very latest (as of this post) version of Hoster. I'm not sure what the specs are on the other computer, only that it's running Vista. But on mine, it's a Dell Inspiron 9300 with 2GB of RAM and 512MB on the Video card.

It's becoming a huge problem at shows. It also cause the audio and the graphics to become out of sync.

Have you also followed the directions for both XP and Vista on the following links (from the manual):
http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/v...de-hoster4.htm
http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/xp-changes.htm

The search uses the Songs database to find the asked for songs. This also means the larger your group of songs in the database the more resources will be used.

The one work around that has worked for us on an under-powered system is to leave the Search window open and pushed down to the bottom where only the title line is visible. Move it up to use it and back down to get it out of the way.

this problem just probably happened this month, and probably to just a few laptops. caused i did a show last night and i didnt get any problems. .i too have a friend that's having the same problem see post "hosterlite 2nd monitor glitches " everytime he added a song in the playlist while someone is singing he'll get (a glitched ) or audio dropout ..

Vinny August 17th, 2009 09:31 AM

Yes I did apply the XP Changes prior to installing Hoster. I'll try keeping the Search window open and let you know...

ddouglass August 17th, 2009 12:21 PM

You especially need to apply the Vista changes to the Vista computer. They are much more critical and Vista is a memory hog as well.
Let me know if that helped.
