Playing VCD's and online database

I'm having trouble playing VCD's. I put one in my cd/dvd drive, click on video, select my cd/dvd drive for the look in box. After that I get nothing to choose. Files of type shows Video Files - VCD,DVD (*.dat;*.vob). The File name is blank and nothing in the drop down box.

If I'm loading new CDG's and the Brand or DiscID is not listed in the Local Database I go to the Online Database I get a note saying I'm not online when I am. Why doesn't Hoster recognize that I am online?

Any help on these would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
tedblosfield400_7@msn.com

Can you see them in Windows Explorer?

What version of Hoster and what operating system?
When was the last time you did the Custom Update from Microsoft?

Playing VCD's

It could be your DRIVE not reading the .dat files -OR- could be something as simply as the Speed of your computer. Hoster WILL PLAY these files from your Hard Drive sometimes easier than playing them from the CD/DVD Drive.

If you own these VCDs, then just COPY & PASTE the .dat files onto your Hard drive. Then PLAY these files with Hoster by ADDING VIDEO to the PLAYLIST.

We'd all like to see your answers to these basic questions. Often updating Windows is the answer.

Excellent points also. We have not create a full VIDEO import from discs, and that won't be in 4.00 either. Using Windows Media Player to import the tracks to your hard drive and then playing is the best approach.

Hoster 4.0 now allows importing video files (all the filename extensions we support) as a new HDVID type, saving them in the Songs Database for Search, BookID, Brand lookup to add to the Playlist, and print or not print in your Songbooks. :w

Hoster 4.0 target release is May 30, but this is software and it must be right before we release. All new features are in, now we're getting the remaining kinks and bugs out. It's called "CRUNCH TIME". :e :w

I always though that importing with Windows Explorer was the best way; that way the files can be Added to the Playlist & the multiplex features will work also.

I'm confused: Above you said that "a full VIDEO import from discs... won't be in 4.00..." Then you said "Hoster 4.0 now allows importing video..."
Which Features will/will not be available in 4.0 re VCDs:?

You can import the files from your hard disk drive as a HDVID, but not directly from a cdrom (VCD, DVD etc) as a CDVID.

Thanks.

Thanks for explaining that. If I understand you correctly, we will be able to import all the VCDs that have already been put on my HD into the Hoster database with all "functions". With any new VCDs, it's a 2-step process, i.e. upload onto the HD and then "import" into Hoster.
