Hi everyone,
I've read all of your postings and they still don't resolve my problems! I installed the version prior to 3.321 and immediately began having problems - when I installed it, all my music files disappeared. I cussed and swore for 5 minutes, but within about 40 more I had figured out what I needed to do to fix it. As I only play around with the program occasionally, I didn't have any further problems and hadn't checked for updates, since it was only a couple of months ago that I had upgraded. Tonight I was singing along, having a good time... One of the songs that I wanted to sing again reached the end and I didn't hit stop in time, so I closed the program and re-opened it. When I did, Hoster no longer could find my songs! I had a separate file as a back up, which also disappeared. I have activated hidden files for search criteria and have looked under *.kma as well as some individual song names. To make matters worse, I was able to find the songs under the search feature of Hoster, although it would not allow me play the songs or to add them to the playlist. So I thought I'd help things by re-building the database. Now I can't even locate the songs within Hoster's search feature. I do not want to have to re-import my 2400 or so songs if I can avoid it. Anyone have any advice for me? I'm tearing my hair out and probably won't sleep much tonight! Any thoughts will be much appreciated!!

(Sounds like Vista.) What operating system are you using?

Are you still using a version prior to 3.321? if so that is your problem. Prior to 3.321 Vista was hiding the song files from Hoster. Version 3.321 fixed this problem.

Missing files

Hi everyone,
Yes, I'm using Vista Home Edition (I think, at least I know it's not the Pro edition). I upgraded to 3.321 like was suggested on MTU's site, but it has not resolved my problem. I have managed to locate my Songs.mdb file and put it where it belongs (c:\mtu\hoster), so I can now access information with the search feature of Hoster, however, I cannot find my .kma files still, not even in hidden files, which I have now made visible. Am I a victim of Vista's ability to simply delete them, or is there any way that I can recover them still? I can't stand the idea of having to reload over 200 disks! I know this sounds pretty small compared to a couple of problems that I saw listed earlier, but for me it's significant and any help or suggestions you may have will certainly be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Use windows explorer to search. Look in public music for MTU and songs.

Lost Music

Swany,
Wish I was having fun. I'm beginning to resign myself that I am going to have to import all of my songs again. I have done an explorer search, looking for "songs", "*.kma", "mtu", "hoster", and various individual songs. None of my .kma files are coming up, even in the hidden files. Initially, a string showing something to the effect of "AppData/virtualsave" or something like that was appearing in the results window from my search for "*.kma", but after updating to 3.321, this string disappeared and I have not been able to locate anything ever since.:f Thanks for the encouraging words!

Look in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Shared Music\MTU or C:\Program Files\Microtechnology Unlimited\Hoster\Songs or C:\MTU\KMA Files. In the first one that you find click on Compability Files (that should set it for all folders) to be able to see any files there.
Vista tries to hide the files from anyone except the original user.

your second step you should have done after importing all your music was to back it up on an external hard drive !

Hoster Help with lost files

I am also using vista and running hoster 3.321. I having the same problem. I am new to hoster and I'm in the process of putting songs in. I have been checking as I go to make sure they play, as they did, but yesterday, I checked some of the songs and I cannot put most of them in the playlist to listen to. It brings them up in search, but then tells me the song is not in the hardrive. Where did they go? Help Please, I'm not very computer literate.
