MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

I just installed MS 4.30 on my new HP Windows 7 PC.

I opened Tools.. And selected Default Drives.. but none are listed??

I know the drive works.

How do I remedy this?

is your drive an ext. or internal, if its ext. make sure you power it on first before opening MS..

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

It's internal Billy.

When I open HOSTER and look it says it is:

F:\hp ccdvdrw TS4-L633N 0300

And works fine there...

Just not on the Microstudio?

JohnD:
I am having the same problem. I think there may be a bug.
When I try to exit from the Default Drive dialog, the program
will not exit from the dialog and I have to use the Task
manager to shut down Microstudio.

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

Did you use the Upgrade or Remove and Install method?
Did you restart computer after installing?
I am installing now on XP to see if this is just Windows 7 or XP. I know it was working for all types during Beta testing.

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

Hi ddouglass:
New... My old HP crashed, so I purchased a new PC and was getting assistance from MTU support. Making my new HP my 2nd PC... I loaded HOSTER, but couldn't get Microstudio to load. [version issues]. I received a message that "in a few weeks the new 4.30 would be out and compatable with 64 bit" .[which the HP is].AND that it would load without an earlier version.

So, when I got my email.. saying it was ready. I purchased the upgrade and downloaded it..

My other PC is an ACER with Vista. After the long list of alterations...
This version of Microstudio works there.

I assume then that Support had you go through the list of items that needed to be done for Hoster to work which is also helpful for Microstudio. I am going to wait until Gary posts how he installed before we get into this. If his was the same way then I can report it to MTU that it isn't working for new installs.

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

The "list of items".. were on my Vista PC... but I made no alterations on my Windows 7??
Yes the alterations were to make Hoster compliant. And so far it does work, however, I'm not happy with the changes it made on my Vista for regular usage. I'm not a host, I just enjoy singing and wanted my own program. I purchased the HP to make it my karaoke related PC and am seriously thinking about System Restoring my Vista. I only have a short time to decide. But if MicroStudio isn't working on the Windows7???

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

John,
Try this link for Windows 7 updates. Some of the things that you have to turn off could be setup with a different use to be on if that is what you are referring to. This way you log on with one use for karaoke and a different one for everyday.

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

Thanks for the response Dale.

My Microstudio install was on a new machine (Desktop 1).
I have been waiting for the new 64 bit release so Microstudio
had never been on desktop 1. I installed, then restarted the
computer. When I started Microstudio I was not prompted to test
the CD drives for compatibility. Once the program started,
all buttons that address the use of the CD drive were ghosted out.
Upon opening the "Default Drives" option a message appeared that
stated "No Drives Available" (a Mstudio message). The "Default Drive"
dialog could NOT be dismissed. I had to use the Task Manager to stop
the Mstudio process.

I removed Microstudio, reinstalled, and had the same results again.

I installed the new Mstudio on my old XP machine and all works well.
The XP machine had an older version of Mstudio already installed.
The installation of the new Mstudio was done using "Upgrade".

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

Gary do you have a copy of the previous version that you can install on the new computer (take the new one off first), set your drives, and then Upgrade to the newest version. See if that works. If you don't have the previous version you can download it from the Support/Downloads on the main web page.
John the same for you try doing it this way and see if you get the drives back.
I will go ahead and report this to MTU, so they can look into it as new costomers won't have that option.

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

Dale,
I have tried a previous version and it will not install. A message
is displayed that states the program is for 32 bit and will
not even open the install shield.

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

Go back to version 4.20. I don't think that message was added except in 4.22.

ddouglass:
Are you saying that if make a second user? say "Karaoke". my pc can be set to use the changes when "karaoke" is accessed, but normal settings when I sign in as me?
Sorry, I'm not verse in computers.. MTU used to be simple, just download and use.. but now all the adjustments and alterations....reconfiguring my PC for it's usage. very confusing.

I'd also like to thank you. You've been very helpful and informative in the past. I appreciate your input.

I see Gary is having the same issues.
Gary:
did you make all the MTU suggested changes to your Windows 7?

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

V4.22 installed and queried for the testing of CD drives.
CD options were active but I did not try to use them (yet).
I then installed 4.23 using the upgrade option.
Mstudio installed, but all CD options were grayed out as before.
The "Default Drive" dialog did cancel this time when the "Close"
button was clicked.

I am going to try a couple other install methods. I'll report back.

John, yes all upgrades and drivers have been installed.

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

OK. After trying various installs using "Install/Remove", "Remove/Install",
of 4.22 & 4.23 my results are the same - grayed out CD functions.

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

Gary this may be a WIndows 7 problem as in the User Access Control.
Did you go through this entire list:

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

Dale,
All the required and recommended changes were made when I installed
Hoster. I went through the list again last night to make sure and
all changes were in place.

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

OK, I have passed this on to MTU Admin and they will take a look at it first thing Monday. I cannot think of anything else. Support may have to play with this and see why they aren't recogonizing the drives. All the functions dealing with the drive will be greyed out because there is no drive assigned (didn't think of that yesterday). Give them a day or two to locate what is wrong.

Re: MS 4.30 shows no CD drive

We have recreated this here at MTU, and are in the process of debugging it. Look for a new version of MicroStudio soon. Thanks to everyone for the great information regarding this.
