Unable To Burn

I am helping a freind set up MTU on thier computer. I have everything working except that when I try to burn a disk it always fails. I am using burners purchased from MTU as well as Disks purchased from MTU. I can import tracts with no problem and burn disks utilizing many other programs.
Both drives are checking out as OK on the MTU soffware.

I am using MS XP on a 6 month old Dell computer and have no other functional problems.

Looking for help!

Thanks

Jules :m

Re: Unable To Burn

Version of Microstudio?
Error message?
Do they have Nero or Roxio installed?
Is the XP 32 bit or 64 bit?

Re: Unable To Burn

The Microstudio Version Is 4.22

The error message says;

The Disk was not written due to the following cause;
Write Error

I do not have Nero or Roxio installed.

I do have Disc Juggler installed and also having writing problems with that program as well. Any other CD burning software on the computer is opperating properly.

I do not know where to get the Bit information on XP

Thanks

What other burning software do you have installed?
How old are the drives and disks that you have?
Is the computer up to date on the Custom Updates (not just the Automatic ones) from Microsoft?
Find the Bit information by right clicking on "My Computer" and go to properties. The first page will tell you which operating system you have including the bit information. That will also tell you how much RAM is in the computer.

Re: Unable To Burn

As stated I have Disk Juggler as burning software as well as I tunes and windows utilities.
The computer is 1 year old and so are the drives that were bought from MKTU. The disks from MTU are about 8 months old and i havge also tried other media with the same rsults.
I do not think any updates other than those that are automatic were installed.
The Bit information is not shown on that screen. Ram is 3.24 GB

Re: Unable To Burn

The first thing you need to do then is go to Microsofts web site and do all the Custom updates with the exception of the Hardware updates. Microsoft is usually either behind or wrong on those.
Don't know if that will fix it, but since neither program burns correctly there is either a conflict or both are missing some update from Microsoft that they need to work.
Make sure your Disk Juggler does not have any thing in the Startup on the Start Menu and hopefully nothing in the registry trying to lock the drive for program use only. I know Nero and Roxio do this.

As soon as I get back to my friends home I will try those measures and get back to you.

Is Microsoft NET Framework v1.1 or higher installed?

Easy to overlook.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I completed all the tasks you suggested and still have negative results.
I also uninstalled Disk Juggler.
I Tunes will burn a disk error free.

In Micro Studio after you hit Write CD the progress bar for Preparing Files comes up and immediately goes to approx 50% and freezes, simultaneously the RPMS of the burner increase, and then the progress bar disappears. Then the Writing Tracts to Disk progress bar comes on, never progresses, RPMS on the burner drops about 15 seconds into that transition, and then the error comes up.

Any ideas at this point?

Thanks

Re: Unable To Burn

Submit a Support ticket or better yet have your friend submit one since it is their set-up. Explain exactly what is happening and what you have done so far. Also include a time frame when they can contact them to be able to access their computer and try to find the problem. It has to be something simple, but not easy to find without actually seeing the computer.

I think Dale is pointing to the problem... 64-bit, which Microstudio 4.2x as well as older copies of Disk Juggler will not run on.

If you have Windows 7, go to Control Panel > System and the General tab will show if it is 64-bit. If so MS won't run on it. We are upgrading to run on 64-bit soon.

Another way to discern this is in MS, does the Tools > Default Drives dialog show the drives with or without the @ character in front?

Id @ is present, it is a 64-bit system.

I am running Windows XP. The Bit rate is note shown on the general tab in the Systems folder. Please tell me where to look on XP for that information.

Thanks

Jules Fogel:?

If it doesn't say 64 bit then it is standard 32 bit.
I am wondering if I-Tunes is controlling the drive much the same way that Roxio and Nero do which is to lock the drive to that program. I haven't been able to find if this is true, but maybe MTUSupport can.
Did you submit the Support Ticket?
