Vista
using vista and when I use an external hardrive I get a message "would you like to scan drive?" How do you turn this off please?

Open your Control Panel, and then click on “Play CDs or other media automatically” to open the AutoPlay dialog. You have a number of choices here, but the quick and easy one is to uncheck the box for “Use AutoPlay for all media and devices”.
