Illegal Lyric Sites?...

I use mtu's KH Pro to write custom CD+G's. Before it was just a matter of going to a lyric site, and copy and paste the words, and simply put them in KHPro, tap out the song, you'd be done..a new creation, that smokes chartbuster, and a list of other shobby mass produced cdg's with lousey timed lyrics. Now, i come to find out after all these years, the lyric sites i've been using for years, like everyone else, are ummmm illegal? What gives? I guess these sites will be going the way of the Illegal karaoke download sites. How can i tell which sites are lagit, and which ones are not licensed and illegal they all look the same to me? How are these sites making money off the song writers? through advertisments maybe?:?

Thats pretty much what i figured, anyone know which ones we're suppose to be using? I checked a few days ago, and none of the major lyric sites are charging anything for their lyrics....so who knows?????

In the article you sited they list at least 3 (LyricFind, Gracenote and TuneWiki). I don't get into producing my own so I don't know how they operate.
Then again are you legal in taking the original music, adding the lyrics and using those in your shows without licensing fees being paid?

Yes, when i purchased the music i'm using from a now out of business karaoke company, they told me i could transfer the music to CD, then my software, just as anyone else would a Chartbuster, or any other lable to use in hoster. Same principle at work here. Is it therefore also illegal to take a poorly written CDG, inport the music, and retap the lyrics tomake a useable CDG with it? never ends..a person could loose all kinds of sleep second guessing this stuff...:?
Incidently, the debate over format shifting has been going on since the arc... Hoster software is so succesful because we "Format Shift". The music in question, was in cassette format...Perhaps i shouldn't have thrown away those old lyric cards they gave mefree to use. If i recopied those old cards, and used mine, chances are someone would scream illegal..illegal...lol:t

The music industry has always been a quagmire and tries to get money from everyone for each little thing. We have become obsessed with intellectual property we are afraid someone will steal our ideas.

i don't think they charge anything for the lyrics, when i was in a band ( years ago )we use to go to lyricsfind and get the words for a song(s), and when i used to used cassette tapes some of them doesn't come with lyrics ..gracenotes i think is a free site just to get the name of the songs/artist as long as they are produced by a certain label co. and recorded into a regular cd..
