downloading cdg's into an external hard drive

hello again everyone...I finally broke down and purchased a laptop computer to start running my karaoke shows from, I have purchased the hoster program and a 500 gig external drive to put all the music onto. Now, I have no idea how to download the music to the external hard drive and am hoping someone can tell me how from this site. What kind of file should I convert it to to optimize space without losing quality?...also, as most of us already know, some discs are recorded really loud, while others you have to crank the volume sky high just to hear the music, is the compressor on the hoster program to correct this problem, and if so, how do you do that?...is there a site to tell me how to do all this?...why aren't there any instructions that come with the program?...thanks....
