Bad Night?

Ok this is a new topic from an old thread, What makes a bad night?

I Say drunken idiots who have no respect for others, or for people trying to do their job. This only happens rarely top me cause most of the time everyone is out to have a good time.

Four weeks ago i had someone walk between my computer and TV stand; tripped on the wires and dumped my computer, walked away, shrugged it off, didn't apologize, sort of like he thought it must've been someone else's fault. I got no support from the bartender or the establishment, I no longer play there as well.

Had a gal, backhand a tv that was one week old. Luck would have it, I had another with me the new one went in the bars dumpster. Did she apologize, nope not a peep.

Thing that ticks me off, is people that test my mics by banging them against something to see if they are on. Yeah drunks are a problem but thats the world I work in. Now my tv for the crowd is built into my equiptment cart, and that would take a heck of a swat to knock it over. 3ft long and 2ft wide.

bad night

bad night is when i only have 4 people singing., and none of them is buying drinks..drunks, i just had one incident, this guy just got out of prison one day before my gig ,and everybody knows it and he wanted to sing "please release me" by E. Humperdinck and i told him he has to wait for his turn.but he just wont listen, make long story short he ended going back to prison for parole violation..the owner called the cops on him..:)

yeah a lot of bars don't know when to cut people off. my mic cords are now looped around a pole because I had more than one person try to walk across the bar with them and pulled the mixer off the stack.

Seems like the only time I ever have a bad night is when someone tries too hard to bypass some of the rules I have set in place to protect my equipment.

It makes me feel like a control freak.

I have all of my gear racked and near me to keep people from touching things.

When I used discs I would not allow anyone to touch them to prevent scratches or other damage.

When I used wired mics I tied them to the rack and around the TV stand and set the cables to enough length to keep people from walking too far away from the TV.

I don't allow people to have drinks and mics at the same time because I had a night where a guy fried most of my system by pouring a beer into the mic.

I have had several bad nights in the last 13 years of karaoke.

We had a fellow KJ (and I use the term very loosely) who was doing a middle of the week show at the club we worked on weekends cause me some major problems. Since this was the only place we worked at the time and the manager was a good friend we left our equipment at the club.
I found out the other KJ was using my TV and stand for his show. This wouldn't have bothered me if he wouold have asked if it was ok. The problem was he drank as much as the rest of the patrons and would be quite drunk by the end of his show. One night however he was so drunk that he dropped the TV :e , looked around to make sure no one saw and put it back on the stand. Had it not been for a very dear friend who happened to see him do this we would have not known until we got there Friday night to do our show. :m
When I approached him about paying for the TV he broke, he claimed it must have been his helper that did it and not him. He did finally pay for it though and I told him and the bar staff that he was not to use any of my equipment.

Good Call! I just found out that the manager at one place I've been working is padding customers tabs, this Sat. is my last night there unless the manager is gone.

A bad night entertaining is better than a good day at the office!

What do you mean exactly by that and how does that affect the show?

Padding a tab is making a customer pay for drinks they didn't get. The customer has six drinks but the manager will add two and charge them for eight, she rings up six and keeps the money for the two they didn't drink. This pisses folks off and they stop coming out. No siingers, no show.

That's what I thought. Here in Maine it's usually the other way around. Patrons love it, bartenders get fired,
(when caught) that's all.

THIS GIRL IS THE MANAGER! :e She gets money from the bartenders by taking cash out of the drawer throughout the night. At the end of the night she makes the bartenders pay the difference. Why doesn't the owner fire her you ask? He's a very wealthy, loneley old man and she is playing him for his money. She makes him take pills so he'll pass out in the back while she extracts money from everybody INCLUDING HIM. :e It's way too evil. After four months of working there twice a month, I'll tell somebody to come and see me and I have to hear another horror story about thei manager. TIME FOR ME TO GOI!

She makes all those doings THAT obvious, even to the DJ in the back of the room. WOW!!

She doesn't even try to be sneaky about it?

It's not obvious to the naked eye, I found this out going to other bars (trying to stir up some business) talking to customers she's screwed. I also talked with the bartenders. She actually tried to scew me out of a bar tab that was part of my pay. One of the other bartenders made it up to me down the road. Like you said WOW!
