"em" space problem
 

I don't have a numerical keyboard. How do I enter an "em" space character?

you're kidding arn't you? No Numeric pad?

Uh... keyboards are less than $25. Buy one with a NumPad.

If you have tried using the number keys at the top of your keyboard (assuming you have them), and that didn't work, then get a new keyboard. :w

Em space won't work with the numeric keypad anyway, as the symbols activated by the shift key are not there.

You must use the shift key and the numerals at the top of the keyboard. What you need is the ^(claret) not the numeral 6.

Any references to using the numeric keypad in the manual needs to be corrected if that is the case.

This is from the manual.
Place the text cursor where you want the em-space.
Press and hold the Alt key and USING THE NUMERIC KEYPAD ONLY, enter the numbers 0160 (enter both 0´s).
Release Alt and a blank space appears as the cursor moves over one em-space; about the width of an M.
Well, I don't have a mumeric keypad so is there another way to enter emspaces?

Em space should work as described using numerical pad. It will not work using the numerals at the top of the page.

However, I have a laptop and I plug my USB full keyboard into it every day. I don't think there is a way to enter the alternate keys except through the numeric keypad. We tried years ago, and it was not possible. Maybe with Win XP there is some way. Anyone know of it?

If not, my suggestion is still valid, assuming you have a Laptop and it has a USB port. :w

Laptops do usually have the numeric keypad setup as a dual function on the keys to the right (don't have my laptop with me at the moment) that is turned on with the "Num Lock".

If you turn this on then you should be able to enter the em space code then turn it off to continue.
