Audio Problems with Kpro/98SE

Developed serious audio problems playing in Kpro on the 98SE system, especially when using ADJUST LYRICS SCREEN to make sweep corrections.
Best description I can give it is the audio started "fluttering". Got so bad I could not work with the program..Have no idea if this may relate to problems others are reporting.

Made the following corrections in my system and have been working in the program since Monday evening without a hitch.

Main Hardware accellerator:

R.Click on any blank area of desktop
L.Click on PROPERTIES
L.Click onSETTINGS
L.Click on ADVANCD
L.Click on PERFORMANCE
Move the hardware accellerator slide all the way to the left to NONE
Apply settings and exit...don't reboot yet

Now go into CONTROL PANEL
Go into MULTIMEDIA
At PLAYBACK menu select preferred device(sound card)
L.Click ADVANCED PROPERTIES
L.Click PERFORMANCE
Move HARDWARE ACCELLERATOR slider all the way to the left to NONE
Move SAMPLE RATE CONVERSION QUALITY all the way to the left to GOOD
Apply settings and exit.

Now re-boot the pc.

As I said, been using the program all week with these settings and the program is peforming flawlessly. I have noticed no adverse effects with any other programs. If this is encountered, I would imagine some fine tuning can be done to these settings to find that happy compromise point.

Hope this helps someone.

Great job...

After playing around within the “Adjust Lyrics Screen” in a Windows 98SE box with full hardware acceleration enabled, I found a “sound fluttering problems” similar to George’s.

I followed George’s excellent instructions and now the program is working perfectly! :g
Unlike George, I didn’t spend a whole week on this; about an hour was sufficient, as he did all the initial works. :g

Once again, my hat’s off to George for his post. I am sure it will help countless people that still used Windows 98SE. :)

George/Jaddams,
Can you post your DXDIAG's for your computers on this thread. This way I can get the engineer to take a look at it. Also what Sound Card are you using? We have found a problem with the Sound Blaster Live and the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz cards that we know of so far with Microstudio, which Kpro also uses the same Play code. We are working on getting these cards in so we can try to reproduce the problems.

Thanks for the input.

Bryan,

Here's the dxdiag file from the 98SE computer.

Using a Creative Soundblaster model # PC 1128(WDM).

Thanks George,
That may be another one that we need to take a look at.

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Sound Card......

1. If you have Win98SE Turtle Beach has a set of Special Drivers (BETA) for your computer for this Card at this Link:

http://www.turtlebeach.com/site/kb_ftp/585ftp.asp

2. I have been using these for months.....with NO PROBLEM.

3. My understanding that the Beta Drivers are WDM and not VXD.

Support,

The fluttering problems I described above have crept back in on the 98SE p.c., even with the hardware and sound accellerators decreased. I might add also that we occasionally had this exact same problem with Karaoke Home Producer, but not as frequently as it seems to crop up in Kpro. You got a bug in there somewhere from way back.

George
