Hoster not responding issue

Hi I have an issue where my Hoster keeps giving me the spinning wheel and 'not responding' issue when I'm adding a new song. This happens whether one is currently being played and I'm lining up the next ones, or if I'm just adding songs in preparation. If someone is singing at the time I try this their words break up/go off for a few seconds, usually with the music still playing. This doesn't happen every time I do it, but it seems to happen more often? I've also had the same problem when I have loaded a track from a customers own disc. While they are singing if I try to add songs from my list it interrupts what's playing, every time in this case.

If it's helpful I am running Hoster 5.41.04 with Windows 7 Pro, 8GB RAM, Intel i5 M520 processor 2.40GHz 64 bit. My laptop hard drive is a Toshiba MK2561GYSN 250GB with 150GB free but my karaoke files are not on this. They are on my external drive which is a Maxter basics 150GB of which 55GB is currently used. My CD drive is a HP DVD-ROM DT31N. My display adapter is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 540v

I have recently removed Hoster and re-installed it, and all my Windows updates are up to date.

Any suggestions please? :-)
Sharon

Re: Hoster not responding issue

This sounds like you must have something running in the background using up some of your CPU.
Open task manager under the process tab click the CPU header column to list from highest to lowest use. Does something show up as using excessive CPU ?

It might show high readings on first opening but should settle down after about 30 seconds.

If an item shows up that seems to be using excessive CPU right click on it to bring up the menu and select search online to find out more about the item.

Hi Roy

Thanks for replying. I opened task manager and under CPU everything said '00' except 'System Idle Process which showed '99'. It doesn't do anything when I right click on it? I then clicked on the 'memory (private working set)' tab and showed highest at the top. The top 5 were as follows:

svchost.exe - 137,160K
svchost.exe - 29,088K
Hoster.exe *32 - 35,420K
svchost.exe - 21,236K
HPPA_Main.exe - 19,772K

None of the above means anything to me!

Re: Hoster not responding issue

Unusual for every thing to show 00 but shows nothing is using up your CPU, the system Idle 99 shows that 99% free so only using 1%.

Anyway the problem doesn't seem to be to do with general background usage.
The only other thing that comes to mind is your spyware program, perhaps it scanning files as you use them, there might be a setting there to reduce what it scans while using Hoster.
To see if this might be the cause try running Hoster while your spyware is Off (obviously not while connected to internet) if it runs without the spinning wheel keep appearing then the problem is likely to do with settings in your spyware programme.

Re: Hoster not responding issue

Ok so I turned of Windows defender and disabled my Symantec still freezes up. I also have an issue where the key changer doesn't reset when you finished a song, and it also freezes/doesn't respond when loading a disc. I then closed my Hoster and opened an old version of Hoster Lite that I still have on the same laptop and it played the same songs songs fine, didn't stall/not respond once and reset the key change too! I haven't used the Lite for ages since I upgraded to Hoster 5.41.01 however, all these issues have happened since having this program, changing my laptop and increasing my song collection albeit only by about 400-500 songs. Not sure if this helps any further! I'm not totally against putting a slightly older version of Hoster back on as my gut tells me this new version doesn't like something about my setup, although I have all the requirements set to run it?

More help please Roy :-)

Was this issue resolved? Mine keeps doing the same thing, and has for quite some time.

Wow! Here it is a year later, and the problem persists. I have since purchased a new high performance laptop with an SSD drive, installed a fresh copy of Hoster and built the database, but it still hangs on just about any operation. This is quite frustrating.

Re: Hoster not responding issue

Are your music files on an external drive ?

If yes have you ran a disc check on that drive and optimised it or defragged it ?

Also try a new connection lead from the usb drive.

If your music files are on the C drive how much free space do you have on that drive ?

Can you give us the Windows version and computer model you using and its specs.

Re: Hoster not responding issue

Sure, it\'s a Dell touchscreen laptop with an Intel Core i7-7500U dual core processor at 2.9 GHz, with 16 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD hard drive with 1 TB free, Windows 10 Home 64-bit Version 1709, build 16299.192. Pretty sure it\'s got enough power. :-)

Re: Hoster not responding issue

Yep, no problem with that spec. Have you tried putting in a support ticket ?

Re: Hoster not responding issue

No, since the problem persisted across two different computers, but if I can figure out how, I will.
