How to get Hoster to index a folder with multiple sub-folders
 

I have a folder called \"Karaoke\" and within it I have a folder for each Karaoke manufacturer and within each manufacturer\'s folder a folder for each disc I own from that manufacturer and within each disc folder are the songs in .zip format.

There are over 300,000 .zip files.

Starting from scratch, with no songs currently in the database, How do I tell Hoster to index these files?

I keep running into problems and it\'ll start over again at zero.

300,000, that’s a lot of zip files ?
300,000 actual songs.

Unless they are all in exactly the same define field order you are going to have problems.

As you have them folders within folders you will have to use the backslash in the define field order setup to make them recognised.
I attach a screenshot of the define field order set as Folder for Brand and A folder for Disc ID then the normal separators for the file names within the folders.

My example shows the track # separated but if yours omits a track # then you would skip that separator.

As I say unless they are all exactly the same as the define field order, Not some with track # some without, some with Title- Artist Others Artist - Title order you will run into problems unless you separate them into smaller groups.

Are you importing them as KMA or KMH ? KMA is going to double up your hard drive space.

Another thing if its starting over and its already indexed some you could get problems with duplicated Disc Ids unless you delete the old database each time so always starting from scratch.

If I understand you correctly, I am going to have to go through each and every folder and make sure all the .zip files are in the same format (i.e. - DiskId-Track - Artist - Title) and then index them by setting the field order to include the folders they are in.

In other words - My folders are set up like:
KARAOKE

>........DiskId-Track - Artist - Title.zip
>........DiskId-Track - Artist - Title.zip
>........DiskId-Track - Artist - Title.zip
>........DiskId-Track - Artist - Title.zip

>........DiskId-Track - Artist - Title.zip
>........DiskId-Track - Artist - Title.zip
>......2002
>........DiskId-Track - Artist - Title.zip
>........DiskId-Track - Artist - Title.zip
>........DiskId-Track - Artist - Title.zip
>........DiskId-Track - Artist - Title.zip
>........DiskId-Track - Artist - Title.zip
>....8000s
>......8000
>......8001
>......8002
>....Maxx Pack
> CHARTBUSTER
> PIONEER
> SOUND CHOICE

So my field order should look like:
Brand\\Ignore\\DiskId-Track - Artist
(I can\'t use DiskId twice in define field order)

Is this correct?

It seems to me your have too many folders in the tree to set the define field order correct as there aren’t enough boxes.
You could try Using the index in reverse order with ignore in the first field as shown in attachment.

But if it was me I would move all the All hits Zips into the All Hits folder directly, doing away with the 2000 & 2000s folders.

Other than that select the All Hits folder as top of the tree and just the sub folders within that.

That would mean importing in stages of All hits first.
Then Chartbusters as top of the tree and so on.

Just import one Brand at a time instead of starting with Karaoke as the top of the folder tree.

Brilliant!

That should work! No matter how far deep into the folders I go, the last thing is always the .zip files, so ignoring everything before that should do the trick!
