is the serial# different from the registration#? I have my original disk. But when i try to reinstall it's asking for serial#. How do I find out the serial #?

what version of MS do you have ?

That would be a good question as for as long as I remember it asks for registration code. I would think this would be exactly the same as the serial number.
What version do you have and what operating system is on the computer you are trying to install it on?

MTU product serial numbers were used years ago. As I recall they were usually comprised of a mixture of 32 numerals and letters, case sensitive in caps.

That's an oldie of a program. I'd guess somewhere around Microstudio version 2400, probably around 2001 or so.

Re: microstudio download

yes I've used it for several years now it's v2.400and have truly enjoyed it. I am lost without it. I've sent email to mtu asking which version to upgrade, and if I will receive a new disk or if I just upload something, but haven't received a reply yet. My fan burned up in my old system, which messed up the microprocessor (so I'm told) and the rep took all of my memory out of my old pc and put it in another pc (giving me 2 hard drives)....Anytime I want something off of my old programs I have to do a search to find them. I was told I had to delete the old program and reinstall it, but now the set up won't go past the serial number screen. Even the MTU site shows the registration# (18 characters-which 4 are letters). I have microsoft windows xp 5.1 if that helps any .

well i stand to be corrected i did get a reply from mtu about the upgrade:
so now i have to shop for another writer as well as upgrade my program! argh!

The latest response to your ticket was:

You will need to purchase the Version 4.22 upgrade to install it again, as the version you have is ancient and no longer supported. Also your old Plextor 48x drive will not work with the newer software as it is also to old to be used with the new stuff.

You can get the upgrade from here http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/microstudio.htm

Re: microstudio download

Microstudio and Hoster both got away from using ASPI to communicate with the drives because it was very limiting and for every drive had to have special code added. Since sometime in version 3 they have used a universal communication that is recognized and used by most CD/DVD drive brands. This opened it up so many drives can be used and not a limited few.
Plextor stopped making those drives with ASPI and stopped listing karaoke (CDG) format as guaranteed to work.
MTU now sells Optiarc drives that are made by Sony and NEC jointly. I haven't run into any of these that don't work. Maybe some of the other users will post some other brands to look for.

I was told by Tiger Direct, that Plextor stopped making any type of writer. When you purchase what you think is a new plextor, you are actually purchasing a repackaged "Liteon" product. So in essence there is no more plextor "ASPI" or other wise.

However that being said, i went ahead and purchased the plextor ie: Liteon writter/w Light Scribe for my studio computer. It reads and writes microstudio graphics perfectly for my older version. I downloaded the latest version of microstudio, and it also worked for it. Hope that helps.

I took off the latest version of MS, and put my older version back on. It works better IMHO

Ditto here, and for the same reason.
