How many people does it take to run your Karaoke show?

When you go on a gig, how many people (including yourself) does it take to work your karaoke show for the evening?

Just me. However I have worked with a cohost where she did all the announcements & rotation & I strictly ran sound & it worked out beautifully. But I normally can't afford a co-host to make it worth while.

madjim- with the Lord April 14th, 2008 07:30 AM

I'm with you Lonnie, having a co-host is not finacialy feasable for me in my market. I can only imagine how nice it must be to have someone handle the singers while I did the tech stuff. :c

O some sat. nights, I work with my spouse and we can do a lot more interaction with the crowd, which we always get complimented on. You know, the stuff where they say your show is so much better than the others. But other times, I do the weddings and private stuff on weekends with the DJ music while she'll do the karaoke gig alone, plus I do all my karaoke gigs alone during the week.

Maybe I should have added a "Both" choice on the pole. :r

We do all shows as one unless her and the daughter fire up the second system which is maybe once a year, so I guess my answer is both of us.

I figured more of us were hosting our shows with two people. This may be another benifit to using Hoster, keeps labor cost low. :w

I started using a Keyspan remote control ($35) a few months ago. It is real handy for walking out in front of the mains and adjusing the vocal/music level by raising and lowering the volume of the music. It's also nice when my amp/mixer has to be facing away from me.

I found I can't use it in one club because there are too many radio waves in the building but I use it everywhere else. :c

Is anybody else using a remote control to help run their show?

karaoke shows

2 hosts are a must for one of our shows here in whistler. from the time we walk in the place its 160 ppl capacity, with a line up to get in till about midnight till people start giving up ( this is on a monday night) karaoke night here is somewhat of a legend here. another one of our shows is at a large night club that has large bands on the weekends (so the stage is fantastic). we run a "snake" from the stage back to the well gaurded, nice set up DJ booth near the back of the club, so we are always in front of the speakers. one really cant properly mix sound behind the P.A. speakers. there is a mic in the booth and we run the show from there. when a singer takes the stage they are up there by themselves with the spotlight. there is a large dance floor and many nights we play a lot of dance music as well-whatever the crowd wants we give-sometimes no dance music. not as busy as the other show, but still well over 100 people by 11pm. our sound is pushed out by 2 sets of yorkville elite 2000's.

Bob,
It sounds like you run one heck of a show! So you will be making a "Two Peoplw" vote? :r :w :c

Thanks for the great input.

gd123 May 14th, 2008 05:09 PM

Only me...which includes running a Lightshow with DMX Software to control 4 individual LED (million color) Par56 Colorsplashes.

I use 2 Yorkville 808 SUBS. Unfortuanately, I'm still using Yamaha Club V Tops.

Hey Bob,
I was hoping you would vote (two people) to keep the poll stats accurate.

Thanks :)

I run bymyelf most of the time but when we have have big partys it is nice to have 2 ppl running makes it less stressful and so you dont get so burt out! Plus you can go out and mingle with the customers and entertain even more....! I do that anyways but makes it easier with 2 ppl running! Mingle meaning not drink but talk, jump around and get into the show!! Helps others to get into it...:)

I agree with that. My spouse works with me some of the time, she runs Hoster like a pro, I am the mingler.

I've always felt like my show goes better with my wife in the audience talking to the crowd. I'd love to have her with me every show but... It's good to see others feel the same way. It's one person for most of us because it's all the market will bear, for me anyhow.
