Re: Moving Software

Which Version of Hoster are you Using ?

Which versions of Windows is the old laptop ?

Which versions of Windows are the Desktop and the newer laptop ?

If your existing Hoster has the Backup/Restore function which would appear in the dropdown from the Help menu then first use that to make a backup on a separate USB stick or drive.
Answer these questions first and let us know if you have made the Backup OK.

Re: Moving Software

its been awhile for me, I was a fifteen year hoster host, I retired from hosting about 3 years ago. I like to host at home now, I have a newer Laptop and a newer desktop, Both Dell Running windows 10.. my software at this time is on a Toshiba laptop running windows 7
I have Hoster version 5.08 and Microstudio version 4.24
I want to move the software to both the lap and desk top computers..(would you advise me to upgrade Hoster) any other info I need to provide to get this done? I do not see the backup / restore in my help drop down..I sure do need some help, step by step please...

Re: Moving Software

I can't guarantee Hoster 5.08 would run correct on the later Windows versions, this change was made in 5.09 because of problems:

"
  1. NEW - Programdata folder created to follow Microsoft Standards - We have had some problems of not being able to write to the C:\MTU\Hoster directory on some Windows 8 systems, this should clear it up.

This version will MOVE your C:\MTU\Hoster Folder under Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8 to the new location at C:\ProgramData\mtu.com\Hoster. Under Windows Xp it is MOVED to c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\mtu.com\Hoster "
So I can tell you how to transfer all your data to the new computer if you want to try your old version but would recommend upgrading.

If you want to try your old version you must uninstall the existing while on line to register it's removal.

The way to move all the data is described in this thread:

It will be slightly different if you upgrade to latest as the data folder will be in a different place.

Microstudio should not be a problem just un install while online to register removal and instal on new computer.
