Did the computer or the install screen give you any messages? or did it simply do nothing when you clicked it? We need more info!!

In the mean time you should maybe try and restore your computer to a point before trying to install 3.321 [start - programs - accessories - system tools - restore.]

I did restore my system and 3320 was there and working
I then downloaded 3321 to my desktop which i bought and
tried to install the new software. In order to install your new software 3321 your version 3320 had to be uninstalled thats where the problem starts when you try to finish new install it will not allow to install so i restored my system and that allowed 3320 to be there i'll have to contact
mtu to find out how to fix this.
A BIG THANKS TO MTU COMMUNITY

What is it telling you when it won't install? If we know the error message you are getting then we might be able to help you through this. It would help too if you tell us what operating system.

Hi douglass
I have pentium 4 2.4 GHz 1.00 GB of RAM
wINDOWS xp on the shuttle by mtu
what happens when i click on 3321 to install and goes to second screen
this is what it says
click yes to remove the current version to allow installing new version .Only the program exe comp0nents and folders created when first installed will be removed. kma wav bin or other files imported created etc and your preferences saved while running the program will not be removed If upgrading to a new version run the setup program again to finish installing.when your click yes to install what happens it takes my 3320 out
like it should to allow installation, then when you click on 3321 again to install it will not
i then tried to install 3320 and 3319 upgrade but that version i bought on jan 30th which was 3319 and 3321 that i purchased march 29th will not install like i said i restored my computor and i got my 3320 back working fine,i don,t know weather i had to buy 3321 or not or if this was a free upgrade. I believe its something minor i phoned mtu and sent them a ticket .
thanks douglass you might have some ideas

If you purchased 3.319 in January then you didn't need to purchase 3.321 as it would have been a free upgrade. Did you purchase 3.321 as an Upgrade or did you do a full purchase again? This will make a difference in the registration code you use.
When you start the 3.321 installation the second time (after the 3.320 removal) what is it telling you when it won't install? Is there an error message window that pops up or something in the installation program that tells you it won't/can't install? There are too many causes for it to fail to install to list without knowing what exactly is going on.
Phoning MTU will not help as they do not do telephone support (too few employees) and only use the Support Email for that. And they will be asking the same questions.

Again I ask what message do you see on the screen when it refuses to install 3.321?? :? :? :? All you have told me so far is it won't install, not what either Windows or the Hoster Installer is saying when it won't install.

hi douglass
this what happens I will auto go to mtu.com site which will say why this program will not install.

1 Our registration web script may have wrongly created to many records for your computor or

2 It has aready been installed on the maximum number of computors or

3 It was disabled by mtu for various reasons to prevent installing again

I believe there is something with registration code.

the computor i.m using was built be mtu its the shuttle i had this one for several years now.
I hope this what you want douglass
thanks again for helping me northlander

you can re-install on the same computer as much as you like. as long as you dont reformat the hard drive.

did you check the ticket status ??

They are running a bit behind on the support tickets right now because they are trying to get 4.000 finished and ready for release. They should get you registration reset soon. And yes that was the information I was trying to get out of you.:g There are many possible reasons for it not installing. Some would be Microsoft causes and not MTU's which would be much more complicated.

i recently asked about this in a ticket and was told that i could install on the same computer an unlimited number of times. the reply i got did not include the caveat you mention about reformatting the drive.

i'd really like to get the real scoop on this particular aspect of the copy protection. the ticket i submitted was because i made a mistake with the video drivers and thought i might have to wipe everything and start over in order to get the machine fixed. the answer i got seemed to indicate that there would be no problem with this, even though i ended up getting stuff straightened out before resorting to such extreme measures.

if a hdd goes bad, the machine counts as a different computer? someone please give complete and thorough information about this.

If you change anything major such as the motherboard or C: drive then it is recognized as a different computer (may be based off of the Microsoft SID). The registration change won't effect them until the next time they upgrade.
Microsoft is worse than MTU. I changed my video card and had to re-activate my XP.

Just for general purposes

i thiught that was the way things were too but I changed my motherboard a couple of months ago and used my old drives and everything still works
without any resets.

I have seen it happen both ways. Some computers if we replaced the motherboard then we would have to reload Windows. Some I have done would start right up. I love Microsoft......sigh.:r :w
To be safe I would let them know in advance if possible. Otherwise wait and see if it is required.

did you replace the motherboard with the exact same one ?? if you did, you wouldnt have to reload windows. tha would mean nothing changed.

Not quite this way. Over the years, MTU has evolved our security to be very forgiving, yet still protect our rights. We use a number of fingerprint items from your computer to determine when it is the "Same" or "Different" computer. Obviously, if you change enough of our fingerprint items, it will be recognized as a different computer.

Year+ old versions of MTU software do NOT have the flexibility we provide today in current versions. It is hard to predict exactly what happens when doing upgrades from very old versions. In theory, the new version captures its new fingerprints which are compared to the past fingerprints in your database at MTU.com. If you don't change ANYTHING, the new version sees "Same" and installs. If you change any hardware, or reinstall Windows and your MTU program version was many years old, it probably will see it as a Different computer and limit installing again without MTU manual intervention. We do offer this as a free service. It takes a lot of out support time for a number of reasons.

The whole mess comes from MTU providing UPGRADES. We give FREE upgrades that usually don't create a problem. When we require buying an upgrade, instead of like our competitors who require you buy a NEW FULL version, this causes problems for us. We are trying to benefit existing customers, but it costs us dearly in reusing the same RegCode you already have. :r

With Hoster 3.320, we activated a new registration script that requires a Hoster or Hoster upgrade purchase since May 30, 2006. That's 24 months back. I truly can't believe it, but some users have a problem with MTU giving them free upgrades for ONLY for 24 months. Instant gratification and "entitlement" mentality regardless how much MTU must spend to provide the upgrades makes them unhappy people.

Suffice it to say that the current versions are very forgiving as to what is Same or Different computer. You can replace a hard drive AND reformat and reinstall Windows and it is still the Same computer.

Shaun, we can't reveal everything about our security or it would be cracked.

Read the top part of this Thread as I tried to answer your questions up there.

Sometimes, our security scrpits, like any web program, can error. We sometimes find that the same computer has two registrations on it for the same program, but different versions. That should not be. When a prior one is removed, and the new installed, there should be one record for that computer. This is where the problem can creep in. In this case, we manually must view and delete one of the records so things work again. It is rare, but it does happen.

We also have some users who try to "break the system", so we have to document what we do. Then, when we see someone needing our intervention time after time and again, it is clear and we ask them to buy a new copy for their other computers.
