Is it possible to have the drive(s) encrypted to be used only with hoster, yet have an owner password to allow it's use on another hoster computer owned by the same company? In a sense it's kinda like having universal spare parts in inventory(interchangeability), so I'd need less of them.

It should not be a user entered password, but automatically detected. I suppose for that kind of scheme to work there would need a way for the owner to "tie" these computer's to a common
encryption scheme, perhaps during registration of each Hoster install.
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
You have no idea how hard it is to modify the Registration Security. It has taken us 5 years to get where we are today. :e

No, we won't consider protecting a hard drive. There is no way that we are aware of to prevent Windows Explorer from copying the songs off the "protected drive".

dlessnau, we are working on a command you will be able to execute to encrypt all your songs to play only on that Hoster. No quaizywabbit, once they are encrypted, they will ONLY run on that Hoster RegCode. That's the only way we can truly offer protection. I expect this to be in Hoster 2.3, which will be a free upgrade to those who have upgraded to 2.124. We should start beta testing 2.201 this or next week.

However, in 2.124, we now allow you to install Hoster on a backup computer if your show computer fails. Thus, the same encrypted songs (when we offer this) will run on the backup also. However.... this is your backup means in the event your show computer fails, NOT to run a second show with. :r

No it isn't. If it was then it would definately be listed in the features. I don't think that it is in the works at the time.

Don't hire people you can't trust! :r
I don't know of any way. There is a program out that supposedly will tag each song with your info in the opening screen - although I believe it only works with mp3g files only, maybe you could look into that, that way if they got stolen, you'd know who took them.

Ummm.not being able to trust anyone enough to hire them without them stealing from us. Thats why I want to encrypt our kma's.Thats why I asked the question about it being a reality. Sorry if you thought I might have been talking about you personally somehow,I was not at all.

I guess I could do that but in the meantime that would let everyone who works for us steal everything I have worked and paid for for over 12 years...was trying to prevent that, thats why Im asking about encrypting kma's. So I dont let one more person steal from me. Guess I just wont hire anyone. But it seems to me that this being as big a problem as everyone is talking about these days (employees stealing their kma's) that something would at least be in the works by now. Maybe soon.

Sorry, was making a TIC comment. Then offered a possible alternative solution that may or may not work.

Thats why Im so desperate to find a way to do this. I was told that Windows has a built in "read only" thing we can try will that work you think? Im running Windows xp home

TIC - Tongue In Cheek - a joke. As far a Windows (any version) Read Only does not prevent copying the files. It only keeps them from being written to and is easily turned off.

Funny thats been bugging me all night trying to figure out what it means! lol! Thaks for telling me :) And thanks for the info about the read only thing. I WISH there was a program to do this! Its only going to get worse the worse the economy gets more pirates needing $ & will steal anything & everything they can if they have to Grrr!

TIC=Tongue In Cheek. I've honestly never had a problem with anyone i've hired in 20 years, well except one host that that he could take the show - that didn't happen.

Must be nice! I WISH I could be a better judge of character sad though I even judged my family wrong LOL! You just must be one of those big burly guys who everyone is scared of messing with :)

Re: Is This A Reality Yet???

No not really big guy. Guess I have just been lucky. I try to hire people with no experience to start with. Family hiring is always a no no even friends are often no no's. Usually customers that do not try to be the show, decent singers (although not always a stout requirement), good with people, and have never really shown any 'interest' in being a host - these are usually the best hosts. I usually shy away from people that WANT to be hosts because they see hosting as not a job, but as a night to party & sing - these inquiries are 99% turned down.
When I was mobile I did all the set-up & tear down of every show - even the ones I didn't work, but did have a couple people I could have do that as well if needed. Mainly wanted to make sure everything was set right so all the host had to do was walk in & turn on everything.

There is software to password protect a USB hard drive but I suppose that is of no use unless you set Hoster running yourself.
This is the site: http://www.newsoftwares.net/usb-secure/
Usb secure is the product I was referring to.
