Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

I upgraded to 4.22 and am still having problems with Hoster stopping. Last night (Thursday) it stopped four times, one with BA running, three without.

I have been to MicroSoft for the latest updates and updated DirectX.

Thanks goodness I don't have out-of-sync problems that some of you are reporting. I am running at -0.5.

Where do I find the recommendations for updating Windows 7 to match 4.22? I can't seem to find them...

Re: Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

The only things beyond the normal list is to update to Version 11 Windows Media Player and update DirectX.
Here is a link to the rest of the list:
http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/windows7-changes.htm

I don't know why yours is still stopping, because they fixed a lot to clear this up and I don't think there are any program errors left to find.
I would say leave task manager up and run a mock show watching the amount of memory free and processor use. It should go way up and/or free memory go way low just before it stops. That might give us a clue as to what is happening.

Re: Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

Dale,

I printed the instructions and did everything I could find to do.

I already have WMP 12.0 and as I stated in my previous post, I have updated DirectX...

The only thing now for me is to try a dry run to see what happens and then wait for my show on Thursday.

I know this seems to be getting old, but I feel someone needs to know when we have problems. They won't go away if we ignore them...

Re: Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

Last night during my Thursday show, Hoster stopped four times bewtween 11 pm and midnight (no problems before that). Again, it is only stopping between songs (thank goodness).

I ran BA for over an hour before the show started with no problem, but shut it off when I started.

My laptop is sitting on a mesh Rolodex stand with a cooling fan under it and is very cool to the touch.

I have updated/upgraded everything Hoster has recommended, so I don't know where to go from here...

Am I the only one still having problems?

It seems very strange to me that all of your stoping is after several hours of operation. This would make me thing it is an internal heat problem. Even with a fan on the outside and it feeling cool to the touch on the outside does not mean that you don't possible have an internal heat problem. MTU has gone through the program code very thoroughly and has not found anymore errors in it that can cause this.
How long have you had this laptop? If you have had it for 6 months or more I would have it cleaned and checked out.

is your laptop plugged into the outlet, or youre using the battery to run your show..the reason i'm asking this was, it happened to me a while back, not with Hoster, but with my dj program, i was doing a private show and it was fine till later that night, music stopped, i forgot to plugged in my laptop, and the laptop battery ran out...so make sure it's plugged in especially if you're doing a 4 hr. show, since some batteries don't last that long.

Re: Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

Not "all" of my stopping is later in the show. I've had Hoster to stop while playing BA before I start my show. Thursday night was the exception for late show stopping. In the past, it has stopped throughout the show.

I've had my laptop since January, and I always run on AC power.

Re: Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

Is this since installing 4.22 or was the earlier stopping using 4.21?

Re: Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

Dale,

A little history. My first version of Hoster was 3.316 (on this computer) but I never used it for a show. In January I purchased the present show computer (listed below) and upgraded to 4.11. I loaded all my songs and began using it for my shows in March. I used 4.11 very little before 4.20 came out, so I can't comment on it.

When 4.20 came out, I upgraded to it and it began stopping and continued with 4.21. I did a Beta test for Bryan at 4.21 before it was released and it seemed to be better, but still stopped...

4.22 started with the studdering problem, but after I made the necessary changes (per MTU), that problem went away...

Since I'm only ~90 miles from MTU, I am willing for Bryan to take a look at my system if he wishes. I've been to MTU before for a different problem (mainly how to set up Hoster with Windows 7)...

Re: Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

I only do one show every Sat. and due to my moving to another house, i had to cancell all of the month of July and part of August,, but yesterday afternoon the owner of the establishment called and asking me if i could do a private karaoke show, ( 60-80 ppl ), i kinda said no i can't since all my gears are in the storage and also i was kinda hesitant since my show laptop has the new upgrade (v4.22) and i only tried it at home once doing a mocked up show,so i called some of my kj friends and no one was available, to make a long story short, i ended up doing the show, v.4.22 went without a problem, i played from 9pm to almost 3am and not a single glitched, auto/ man.BA( on /off), search, singer windows all open and i even imported a singer disc ( i only import original disc, no custom ) while a song was playing and it imported w/o a glitched...i'm happy, the owner was happy everybody was happy:):):)

That you will have to work out with MTU.

Re: Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

When I did my show last night (Thursday) at 8pm, Hoster stopped six times (8:15, 9:20, 10:04, 10:35, 11:07 & 11:45). Yep, I wrote them down!

I had BA running for about 30 minutes before the show, but turned it off when I started my show.

Each time Hoster stopped, I lifted the computer up and felt of the bottom of it and it was cool. Never did get hot. Heat ws not the problem, as far as I could tell!

Don't know anything else to do. It appears that I'm the only one having problems, so it's either me or a problem with my computer that I don't know how to reslove, so I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to have to live with it.

Re: Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

if you're having problem with v4.22, try going back to an older version, 4.20 maybe, and if it happens again, then it's your laptop..and also if you have any ext. hardware hooked-up to your laptop( ext. hhd. ext. monitor, etc. ) try unplugging them and run hoster by itself for a while, then start plugging each one back, and see what happens..just a suggestion..

Re: Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

sorry about the dbl.post i was also gonna suggest if theres a way you can find out the cpu temp. idle and running, since there's only 2 major reasons for it to shut down either not enough power supply or over-heating..

Make sure you have the latest 4.22 update that just came out Wednesday (I think). I had no shutdowns with this one!:)

Re: Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

Billyo,

I use a monitor only (use internal hdd) and at home it's not hooked up, so it appears this is not the problem.

I downloaded 4.22 directly into Hoster and cannot go backwards (learned a lesson there).

Skybird,

I didn't know an update of 4.22 had been issued. Have I missed something?

You may have. Here's the July 14 post from Admin. Read the Thread on "Hoster.... dll error..."

I believe It was just a fix for people who had trouble with the download procedure, I don't think there was any more fixes for your particular problem. But it wont do any harm downloading it.

Do you think your problem is gradually getting worse as you say it stopped 6 times.
I'm beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with your computer.:f

Re: Hoster 4.21 Vs. 4.22

Roy,
I downloaded it anyway. I will do a mock show at home to see if anything happens.

And no, I don't think it's getting worse. Since I downloaded 4.22, the results have been eratic. Sometimes it's late in the show, sometimes it's early. Sometimes it's only stopped once in a show. Sometimes more! So it's really been all over the place and hard to track or make any sense of the pattern.

Although I will test it at home, I will not have another show until Thursday and that's the real test...

Skybird,

You stated that you downloaded the lastest version and had no stops with it. Does that mean you had some stops before you downloaded the latest version?

Yes, Hoster crashed at least a couple times with every Show with 4.21 and when 4.22 first came out, but usually only when I had Visualizations running with BA. I also updated .NET, so that probably helped also. If you download 4.22 again, then you'll be sure you have the latest, and then you can go from there. And don't forget Windows Updates. One of the fixes did have to do with Vista and Win7, so my problem could have also been related to the fact I am using Vista.:)
