Hoster only will maximize

when I open hoster it appears on my bottom tool bar and when I right click and choose maximize it comes up but Maximized not allowing me to resize it. If I click to make display smaller it just goes back down to the tool bar. At this point the only way I can use Hoster is if it is Maximized taking up my whole screen. Anyone know how to correct this. Thanks

Don't choose Maximize from the task bar, but choose Restore instead then it will go to normal size. Maximize is to make the Window full screen size and does not allow resizing by dragging.
If you are stuck at Maximize click on the symbol to the right of the "X" in the upper right corner to shrink it to normal size.

I have tried all that and when restore or click the button to the left of the X its know where to be found. When I first started up Hoster the video intro with hoster would start blinking and then give me an error message. The only way I could get Hoster to run was to click something in hoster to stop the video intro then it would be fine. Now when I start hoster the second monitor shows up but the only way I can see Hoster on my computer screen is to maximize it. :f

Dale,
Did you mean to the left of the x.

Are you saying there is nothing to the left of the X? There should be 3 symbols in that corner. A minus (-), a double box (sorry can't draw it), and the X. The double box is what you should be clicking.
The video intro is necessary to initialize the video player for any video files you play. This file is a WMV type of file. If it errored (not knowing the error message) I would suspect the codex is bad or your Hoster install was bad.
With a combination of the two problems, I would start with removing and re-installing Hoster. When you do there is a check box on the personal information page at the bottom to clear the registry entries. Check it when you do the re-install. You will have to reset up any Instabuttons, modifications you have done to the show display and any settings you have changed. This will clear the previous setting for the window size and reset it to default.
What operating system are you using?

I have an easier way to fix it. Increase your desktop resolution. Right click on empty space on the desktop, chose properties, then the settings tab. Set it to the max size (set the slider to the biggest number) After you change the setting, you should see the Hoster window. Now move it to the upper left and make it smaller by dragging the corner. Then change the resolution back to where it was, and you should be fine.

Sorry, Yes there is a button next to the X I meant when I click it Hoster disappears instead of coming up in a smaller window.

Dale,
Is it possible that her smaller sized screen(the one created by the button just left of "x") has been pre-made as small as possible and hiding just out of view?

There should be 2 next to the X. But anyway your best bet would be to reinstall Hoster as I listed above.

Even if it was set to the smallest size possible you would still see the top bar somewhere just above the taskbar. Try it. You cannot make it completely disappear and only be on the taskbar with that control.

I was wondering though, if that real small bar could have gotten dragged deep below the screen edge making it nearly out of sight. I have done that before with icons and other pieces of programs on the desktop before.

It is possible if your taskbar is set to Auto Hide then you could feasably hide it behind the taskbar or maybe on the secondary screen. If that is the case then re-installing with the registry clearing will fix it.

micbob4 April 29th, 2009 02:58 PM

I tried that to. Reinstalled and the second monitor appears on the screen but hoster is on the toolbar. I have to right click and select maximize to have it appear. I have move the toolbar and everything else to see if it was hiding behind something but could not locate it. Not sure what is going on. :e

Are you comfortable with working in the registry? If so I will give you a procedure to change a setting to make it normal size.

Micbob,
When you reinstalled 4.08 did you check the box that says "Check this if you are reinstalling Hoster and you wish to clear all saved settings"? It's on the personal information page. This is the registry fix Dale is talking bout.

You didn't mention that you did this in your post.

Just trying to help.

The window has to be hiding somewhere because the singer's Display would not be up showing anywhere if it wasn't. Set your computer to the highest resolution available. Open Hoster and see if you can find it.

And Jim if he had not done that then his SInger's Display would not be on his computer screen but would be still on the secondary monitor.

For sure Dale, he just didn't mention whether it came up on his computer or his TV screen.

Didn't mean to get in the way. :s :t Just trying to help.

P.S. Please PM me the registry fix you mentioned. I'd like to learn which key this problem is related to. Thanks!

One easy way to sort of clean up the display, in XP , is to right click on the task bar(grey bar at the bottom), select properties, then select "Auto-hide the taskbar", then move or adjust any open window, then de-select "Auto-hide the taskbar".. everything pops to the middle of the screen.

Folks, if you run Hoster, click the Tools menu Options command, the the Reset Displays button, we do all the hard work for you and your screens are clearly visible again. :w

micbob4 June 11th, 2009 03:17 PM

Tried that to did not work. :f

ddouglass June 11th, 2009 04:50 PM

Are you doing all this with the secondary monitor attached or not?
Do you know how to do Screen Captures?
If you tell Hoster to minimize (either with the "-" by the "X" or by right clicking Hoster on the taskbar) does the Singer's Display disappear too?
