After Upgrade 4.04 Program Won't Start

Is anybody else having this problem? After upgrading to 4.04 the program won't start. All I get is Vista asking me to check on line for a solution or close program. I've uninstalled the program, ran a registry cleaner, deleted the MTU folder then installed program and still the same problem. Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks

What version of Hoster did you have on your machine that was working before you installed 4.04? Did you try a System Restore?

sleflar September 21st, 2008 06:43 PM

Version 4.03. I did a systems restore to an earlier date and it didn't help.

Skybird74 September 21st, 2008 10:34 PM

You said System Restore didn't help..... does that mean it didn't "restore" or it didn't solve your problem?

Did you Restore before or after you un-installed 4.04? If you did it after, then some files would be missing for "System Restore" to work properly.

If 4.03 worked & 4.04 didn't. Re-installing 4.03 should do the trick. It is possible that defragging the system in between removal & re-install could help. The computer is probably confused:e:g

I always set a restore point before installing new software or upgrading for saftey reasons. I did a restore after installing 4.04. I've tried 7 different times going back to 9/12/08 settings as well. Manually removed regesitry entries and MTU Folder as well as Hoster under Program files in windows explorer. Then ran a registry cleaner.
After reinstalling Hoster it asks me to reboot. After that I start the Hoster program and it goes through building the database. After that the same thing happens ( check on line for a solution or close program) Looking at details: It says Hoster exe crashed.

Thanks

Hey Sleflar,
I'm sorry 4.04 isn't working for you.

If Hoster 3.40 (C:\Program File\Micro Technologies Umlimited\Hoster\Hoster34.exe) is not working as well, I would advise you go back to using the last version of Hoster that worked best for you.

I hope this helps.

None of the 4 series will work for me now. However 34 is working.

4.04 to 3.321?

Jim or Dale, I have a question, before upgrading my Vista.
I put 4.04 on my backup XP, so far so good, but of course it went through the conversion process of changing zips to mp3g's, which means I will need to re-add these particular files to my playlists.

Now that my files have all been converted to the 4.04 format, can these files still be read by 3.321 that I still have on my Vista? I still want to play around with the program a while.

marklwood September 22nd, 2008 12:01 PM

Yes, all KMA files are still backwards compatible.

Skybird74 September 22nd, 2008 12:16 PM

I know they are supposed to be, but have you tried this yourself? My biggest concern is because of all the Playlists I have & still use constantly.

madjim- with the Lord September 22nd, 2008 02:28 PM

Hey Sky,
Before you do anything, save a copy of all your playlists to a seperate folder. This way if any changes happen that you dont like, you can always go back to square one.

3.321 is 3.40 (3.40 is a version of 3.321a) which is located here:

C:\Program files\Micro Techologies Unlimited\Hoster34.exe

If your playlists show HDMP3G files (converted HDZIP's), you should be in the clear. Your playlist should run in 3.321 and 3.40.

I hope this helps.

Yes, I have tried the KMA files on a Vista machine. I didn't know you were asking about playlists. I have not tried these on Vista yet. Like Jim said, if they are not listed in your playlist as zip files, they should be fine. If they are, then I suspect they won't work.

Skybird74 September 22nd, 2008 03:17 PM

Thanks Jim. I made a backup of all my Playlists. And, from everyone's advice, I can see that I will need to be careful with zips in the playlist, and re-add them before I do a show.

Thanks, everyone.

I have the same problem. I have a Dell 1525 W/Vista and 4gig. After installing 4.04 and rebooting, the program will not start. 4.03 was working before the update to 4.04. Tried it many different ways and still can't get it to work. Finally went to Control Panel and removed Hoster. Then reinstalled 4.03 and 4.03 works. I have tried to reload 4.04 several times but it will not work. I always have to use control panel and remove hoster then reinstall 4.03 to get it to work. I would like to know why in the properties of 4.04 it is set up to run in compatibility mode with windows XP. I have Vista installed not XP. Sorry, I don't know how to solve the problem. Hopefully MTU will find the solution.

There was a bug that was found that prevented some Vista users (myself included) from running the program & should be fixed in 4.05. Just hang with 4.03 a while longer.

sleflar September 25th, 2008 12:59 PM

My HP with Vista will only work with 4.02.

Skybird74 September 25th, 2008 01:29 PM

Did you make sure you did ALL the required updates before upgrading to 4.04. I put it on my 6-year old HP-XP laptop with only 512 RAM and it works fine. It's Vista that's causing the most grief.

sleflar September 25th, 2008 01:48 PM

Thanks SkyBryd,

If you look above you'll see it's a bug in 4.04 that they will fix in 4.05. My Dell Laptop seems to be fine.

I think we all need to start accepting Vista since that is what the future is.
I own four companies ranging from DJ's, KJ's, VDJ's, Live entertainment from Petting Zoo's to Headliner Entertainers, Stage Lighting, Sound Systems as well as a Recording Studio.

I find that Vista seems to be prefered OS by the majority of my employees. We have 117 employees.

If I may ask, what are the names of your companies? Where are they located? It sounds like you have built quite a business. :w :c

Thanks
