Need help with Back (system Crashed)(DALE HELP)
ok Here we go my back up system crashed big time since I can't get into the computer to uninstall Hoster I am for sure I am going to lose this program on that comp and won't be able to reinstall on another computer for back up. The Mother Board is completely fried on this wonderful 6 month old Vista piece of crap. HP notebook. What I want to do is take and reinstall on my Dell desktop for emergancies. however can I do this without having to buy another full version of Hoster????
I never liked Vista in the First place my desktop has XP and The Laptop I use on a reg Basis is XP any help would be great thanks.... |
If your Vista is only 6 months old, you should be able to take it to where to bought it & have them fix it, if you don't know how. They should either fix it or give you another machine. There is no way that Hoster "fried" your hard drive!!!:e
Can you boot up so that you can do a "factory restore"? :? If it willl not "boot up" on it's own, when you turn it on, can you access the CD-ROM? If so, you can put in the recovery disk & it can fix itself from there. Did you follow ALL the Hoster "requirements" and turn everything OFF that was suggested before you installed Hoster? Sounds like a bunch of conflicts. |

Go ahead and put Hoster on whatever other machine you want & there should be some kind of message allowing you to transfer regsitration from 1 computer to another. MTU keeps track of how machines you have and your registration numbers. |

So, Mike, I see you have Vista. So, how is Hoster working on yours? I haven't seen anything from you regarding all the problems other Vista users are having??? ... mostly video complaints

I know Mike said that you have to do that. However, as I said it has been posted on this Forum by Admin that would not be necessary in future versions. So, it is possible that this is true in 4.0x. You don't have anything to lose by installing it in your other machine. When you connect to MTU, they may transfer the registration for you. It's worth a try.
|
If you can't reinstall on another machine then put a support ticket in to MTU explaining your problem, I'm sure they would be able to help there. They have in the past to other Hoster users.

You're not the first person who has had a PC die on them.:e |
Yes, that's what I was getting at. Give it a try...... then if it doesn't work, then you know you need Support to re-set the registration for you.

The only problem I have with 4.04 is that it will not automatically convert my old playlists that originally contained a lot of HDZIP to HDMP3G. Which means I have to redbuild any old playlists I want to use. Sorry I can't think of anything helpful to add that might fix your problem. |

Not sure how you can do that if you cant remove from the down lappy. But im sure if you let mtu know what has happened they can free the code for you to install again on what ever machine you like.

play lists mike
i found on the first opening of a playlist with a zip file would work but if you closed hoster with that playlist opened then they will convert to the new formate and wont play. But now with 4.04 files get checked before hoster opens converted then zip files will play.In 4.03 if i open a playlist and it stayed open zips would play if you switch playlist then they would not play. Not sure whats going on with them number or id is the same so they should play will try that out hummmmmmm

Hey Frances, to answer your original question, you will have to submit a support ticket to reset your reg on the dead computer. Support seems to be gaining ground on the backlog and was pretty quick to respond last week. I got my backup comp out to install 4.x on it from 3.x since I was fairly confident that my main machine is stable enough that I don't have to worry about it. When I pulled the machine out of the storeroom to do the install, I too had a fried motherboard. I submitted a ticket on Friday @ 1pm and figured I would do the install this week. I got a response back @ 3pm resetting my reg.
I am going to install on a Vista laptop for no other reason than to see what all the fuss is about with Hoster and Vista. Maybe I can be of some limited assistance to others who are having trouble. |

Fran, Mark is correct, this is why. The new feature that MTU added to Hoster 4.0X concerning installs, is the ability to remove Hoster 4.0X from one computer and install it on a different computer without MTU's intervension (you have to be online :w). Since your machine went south on you (died :f), you were not able to uninstall Hoster so MTU will have to reset this manualy on their end. Jim :g |
May be a silly question - but when you un-install, you're usually not on-line, so how does MTU know it was done first? So, if you can install on a different machine without MTU's intervention, as long as you are on-line, then why is a support ticket needed to re-set the registration?
|
When you uninstall you have to be online.
|
Thanks, I didn't know that. I thought a "crash" & the inability to "uninstall" was the reason it would not be necessary for MTU to intervene, as long as you're on-line when you install on a new machine so that the registration would be tied to it at that time.
