More Problems!!!!

I can add songs to the Playlist using the Search & Singers buttons. But I cannot add any songs using the Bood ID or Brand buttons. Are these buttons not yet functional?

ddouglass August 22nd, 2008 01:01 AM

They are working fine. Does your dropdown list show the BookID numbers? If not rebuild your database.

Skybird74 August 22nd, 2008 11:01 AM

Yes, everything is there like it's supposed to be. I can see the song in the list - but when I PRESS EITHER THE BRAND ID or BOOK ID buttons, THEY DON'T ADD THE SONG. Again, both of these buttons worked fine in 3.321. Many of my singers will just give me the Book ID & nothing else, so I know how to use it. I've been doing so for over 2-1/2 years with no problems! (Sorry I sound so bitter, but YES I am!):f

Hey Sky,
Try reinstalling Hoster.

1. Uinstall Hoster

2. Restart your computer

3. reinstall Hoster

Freaky little things like what you are seeing can be caused by a bad install (nobodies fault, just a glitch). :r

I Hope This Helps

What happens when you push the "Add Track" or "S+" Button?

I did'nt know that selecting "BookID" or "Brand" would actually add the song to the Playlist.:)

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Selecting "BookID" or "Brand" is how you look up songs, besides using "Search".

If you only used the "Search" feature, then you won't miss anything. But many customers just give me the BOOK ID#. So, when you click on BOOK ID, you just Type in the number, the song comes up in the list & then you click ADD. That's the way it has always worked for years!

I think that is what Laddie is asking. That is exactly how I do it. Type in the # and hit add track or s+ or just enter. Are you saying this is not working? I don't think we understand. This is how most of us use the program. The only thing different is the name field is always populated so you need to type a name in or edit the field in the playlist by right clicking the name after you add it.

When you enter the BookID does the correct title show in the box for it?
If not then rebuild your database.

Skybird74 August 22nd, 2008 10:38 PM

Yes, everything is correct, the song list is populated and the song shows in the window. When I click Add Track, nothing happens. It will NOT add a song to the playlist. If this is working for everyone else, then maybe it is just my install.:c

Are you saying you don't use "Search" to look up your songs? I've been in this business for so long, before computers, that I am familiar with the Disks and companies, so that I usually know which is the better version. So, when a singer asks for a song, using only the BookID, I always look up the song anyway. 9 times out of 10, they just gave me the First number listed in the Songbook, and didn't pay attention to the "Disk/Brand". So, 9 times out of 10, if I just type in the # they gave me, it is usually a Version that don't want and then I have to look the song up while they are on the stage to give them the version that they wanted in the first place.

Skybird......I see what you mean (at least how you use Book ID button etc.)....just thought i would give you feeback.

I have 4.03 installed and I am able to search this way (by Book ID) and add the song to the play list with the "Add track" button and it plays. I also have people that ask for Book ID sometimes. At any rate, it works for me.

I am sorry you are having problems. I hate to say it; but did you try re-installing:e...don't know if this will help your situation...just thought i would respond to your question

Guess, I'll have to bite the bullet:r I've never had to do this with Hoster before and since I thought I waited until all the bugs were fixed, I assumed everything would work the first time.

Since this is an upgrade, do I uninstall the usual way (through the Control Panel)? Since that will remove all instances of Hoster, will 4.03 still install without a previouis version still on my machine?

Also, is it possible that 4.03 uses many more resourses than 3.321? My older laptop did have a lot of other programs on it that ran just fine with 3.321, but maybe they conflicting now, even though they didn't before?

Why is that in yor book trim your book down tothe best ones and you won't have that problem:g:g

Skybird74 August 23rd, 2008 01:19 AM

People who have been singing for many years have their own preference, which may not be the same version of a particular song that I prefer. Over the years, I have learned that it is better to be prepared. If the customer is happy, then I'm happy!

Think about all the additional items that they have added to Hoster 4 and yes it does use more resources than 3.321. That is why the recommendation now is for 1GB or more memory instead of the 512MB it used to be. It will run on 512 but may be slower responding.

Skybird74,

Quick! Did you try closing Hoster 4.03 and then starting again? I got an error message by not having a cdg in the disk drive prior to a Disc search, and then was unable to use I.D. search, or Brand search until I closed and re-opened Hoster! They both worked After I restarted Hoster! Probably too simple to solve your problem, but it happened to me when I tried to re-create the way you were searching, and since I had been trying to make 4.03 crash since I upgraded ( I haven't been successful yet!:)) thought I would try a few of the buttons ( tabs ) that I don't normally use during my shows!

As to the other posts here to your problem, try the easiest fix first, and work your way to the most complex! My show computer was running fine until I first upgraded to 4.0 and then the common problems with locking, slow lyrics, etc., started piling up as I tried to use more of the features that the new version allowed! I always seem to jump in, instead of getting just a toe wet first!:t

I too have been through the Karaoke wars ( remember the video karaoke discs that looked like 78's), most of my cdg's have been added since mid 90's when it worked out to about $2.00/song in the beginning, so you didn't want to duplicate any more than you had to, so you waited for a version of the song to be produced by your preferred Licensed manufacturer! Of course there weren't that many back then!:g

Do trim your song book down to your favorite version of each title, it will save you time, and headaches with unknowledgable regulars, that you have probably already trained to know that you know what is the best version for them from your library!:r It will be that walk-in client like me, that will come into your show for the first time, without my personal cdg collection, asking you to play the Chartbuster versions, and take it down two steps! 1 in a 100, and you seem already prepared to handle that type of clientele!:)

Stick with Dale, & Jim, and the other helpful KJ's on this forum, and they will get you steered in the right direction. They have solved several problems that I have had with being computer challenged!:e

4.03 is loaded with features, and makes up for the wait, and the short time that we had to deal with the glitches, from the earlier versions.:c

Rikki - Too easy a fix - Restarting the computer again, not just Hoster, and I can Add from the DiskID & BookID (:sGo figure!!!!!)

With everyone's problems & the fact that I now use Vista for my Show computer, I wasn't about to install 4.03 in it, until I practiced on my old XP. I just installed, rebooted & started trying everything out, what I know I use as well the new features.

I hate not having the Version that a customer wants (I don't play in public bars, only in clubs, so most everyone is regulars, very few newbies). If I cut out anything, it would be the SGBs. I don't care for most of what I have heard. But yet, I do have a few regulars who went out & got the whole SGB set & that's what he practices on, so...... there you go. It's not worth my effort. From experience, I'd rather have too much that not enough.

I started going to Karaoke when some people only had cassettes. I started my career by singing with cassettes in nursing homes in 1993 & it grew from there. I was up to 100 cassettes when I finally broke down & changed to CDGs. Trying running a show by having to "fast forward" or "reverse" to find the song someone wants to sing:e. And I either typed up the lyrics myself or enlarged the words that came with the cassette on a Xerox machine!!!!! That was fun!:)

I just deleted the songs.db and am rebuilding to see if that makes a difference there.

Yes, Dale & Jim and some others are great with advice. I don't know where they find the time.:) I'm not computer challenged, but I don't understand what goes into things like programming & coding.

ddouglass August 23rd, 2008 08:34 PM

Skybird, the first words out of a Microsoft Tech Support are "Have you rebooted the system?" Guess I should have followed the standard support statement.

Skybird74 August 23rd, 2008 08:41 PM

I am sure I did immediately after installing, but I also know from experience that sometimes it takes more than once to do the job.:r

Also, I realized that one time (in my frustration) I didn't enter a singer's name. And it will not Add to the list of that Field is blank.:s
:sGuess I was way too impatient that night.

ddouglass August 23rd, 2008 11:52 PM

You can add songs without a singer's name. I do it all the time when setting up a test playlist.
