Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

Dale,

Hoster "has" stopped before with BA not running at all (never turned it on all night). Do you still think it's my Computer not capable of running both?

Dale,
Is there a possibility that some coding change can resolve this problem down the road?

Are you working on a FIX for 4.11, also? I know about 6 KJs using either 4.11 or 4.20 that are ALL having the crashing problem and ALL having audio drop outs on the mp3 music for dancing. i am using 4.11 with windows 7 and plenty of engine power. Mine was working fine, and just started messing up a few weeks ago.

If it was working fine a few weeks ago then it may be something you've added to your system in that time.

Perhaps an update to some other program on your computer.

Hoster is the only program that I have installed in this computer. I bought the computer in December. All songs are on external.
3gb ddr2 ram, 320gb hdd windows 7.

Have you all tried 4.21? There was a code fix in that one that did fix most of the shutdowns due to a couple of errors they found in the code.
There will not be additional fixes for 4.11 except to upgrade to 4.21. 4.20 added Video importing capability and only changed the import from hard drive section of the program. 4.21 fixed code causing the shutdowns.
That does not mean that running the BA and Visuals will necessarily work as this again is dependent on your computer. This includes it's sound card and video card capabilities. Some it will work on and some it will not.
In your case another 1 gb ram wouldn't hurt at all.

I'm using 4.21 and I'm still having the same problem.

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

Please understand that we are now putting 100% of our development resources on fixing these problems; 1) crashing with/without BA player, 2) crashing when removing silence, 3) lyrics out of sync.

We have studied the Hoster code and, in a reasonable time spent, did not find any bugs that can be causing these problems. Thus, RIGHT NOW we are upgrading our software development environment - Microsoft DevStudio 2005.

Whoever it was above that stated Hoster was running fine and now it isn't, this "could" be caused by a Windows upgrade that changed a DLL or other system level "utility" called by Hoster.

We expect to have the new DevStudio up and running by the end of today. You might wonder why we are using an "older" version of DevStudio:

1. Our products all worked fine, until recently.

2. By using an older version of Direct-x and WMP, didn't require you (our users) to upgrade. OK, now you will need to do this... if it hasn't already been done. Some folks have complained loudly in the past when we required the "latest and greatest" versions of these.

3. It potentially will require more computer RAM to run with the newer Diret-X and WMP (Hoster shouldn't change its requirements). We won't know until we get it built and can test.

We expect that when we compile Hoster under the newer DevStudio, we'll have to "fix" some code operations. This is normal, and we currently expect this to happen within a day once the DevStudio is running. Again, we won't know until we try to compile.

As soon as we can, we'll get our Beta Testers on it, and probably get a copy to each of you who have reported problems in this Thread. Two of you tested 4.21 with us.

We are also working on adding a Tools > Disable Functions command. It will have a checkbox beside every major "processor/RAM" intensive function added since 4.00. Clicking one will disable its associated feature. This will allow those who still run Hoster 3.3XX to take advantage of the less demanding new features, upgrades and bug fixes, while "hopefully" still running on your older computers. I will not hold up releasing the bug fixes for this, so this new "disable" command probably will appear in Hoster 4.30.

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

I used 4.21 again last night, my show ran for 5 hours. It didn't stop all night, I was not running BA. So far two shows now it has not stopped. :)

Bryan,

Thanks for all you and your staff are doing to help resolve this problem. You have my full support and I will do whatever you might possibly need (if anything) from me!

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

Well guess what the third time was not a charm. Last night durning my show it stopped two times. Again it was at the end of the song so no one knew anything was wrong. It worked great two times. I was not running BA. :f This was 4.21.

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

this is a dissapointment to hear. bryan at mtu thought that 4.21 woul be a fix. please report this to him at support @ mtu. this is the reason i was reluctant to mess with it . i have had trouble over the years with upgrades of hoster and not all new versions are a charm. i'm actually still having the fewest problems with my old xp and 3.321.

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

During my show last night (Thursday /10) Hoster stopped one time. Again, it was in between songs and the audience never knew.

I ran BA before the show for over an hour with no problem, but shut it off when I started the show... :c

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

Update on our status... we have now spent close to 3 days working on upgrading our Microsoft DevStudio!!! :m :f :m

It is incredible that Microsoft doesn't have a simple list of files (with links to them) that are needed to upgrade. THREE days and still not able to compile yet.

We are MSDN (MS Developers Network) members, and have posted a request to Microsoft's developers to answer. That was on Thursday, and no answer yet.

We make a little progress every day, so eventually we will get it done, or that's what this optimist wants to believe. :g :r

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

I did a show on Sunday night it was 5 hours long. Hoster never shut dow once. Now this makes two shows no shut downs, then one show with shut downs, then the next show no shut downs. Who knows, and I haven't done anything any different. Oh well, at least it is still doing it at the end of the song not during so no one knows but me.

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

Before I started my show Thursday night (6/17) I ran BA for over an hour without it stopping.

I turned BA off when I started the show and Hoster did not stop at all during the show (~4 1/2 hours).

MTU is working on further fixes for this. Hopefully it won't be long.

Download Hoster 4.22 and install it.

ALso, you can read the changes here.

I think this may fix all your problems.
We found real problems that have been eluding us for years... now fixed. :c

Have you done the latest updates? 4.22Beta has been working perfectly, so it shouldn't make any difference. However, 4.22 does have some new requirements.:)
