Did you switch to the "Old" player in the Options? You didn't say.

Glen Turner November 19th, 2008 10:03 AM

Hey Dale, sorry, yes I did....I think I've tried all the settings suggested. I went back over all the post (I actually printed all of them) to make sure I didn't miss anything. Works great till you connect a s-video cable and extend to another monitor. I logged my son in Va. (software engineer) to the forum so he could see all the post and he and I went thru it all together last night. It has him baffled too. If the video card in my laptop is not made onto the mother board, I'll buy a new one and upgrade it. My other son at Dell in Nashville just called me while I'm typing this and is double checking to see if that's possible....I don't know what else to do at this point. When I open the ATI Catalyst Control Center and look at the video hardware - it says there's 256 mg of memory and under it says Hyper Extended Memory even though the spec sheet when I bought the lapto shows 128mg card. I wasn't having any problem with the 4.03 but I thought I might be missing something if I didn't get the Free Upgrade to 4.06. Big mistake looking back. I don't do the kinds of shows most people on here do. I only have abpt 6500 kma files and we just use it for our fun and a few company parties and such. I hate losing out on the "insta-buttons" and the scrolling graphics by running 3.4 but that's all I can do at this point. I noticed a new post about "lryics lagging" and going to watch there to see if a new suggestion comes up. Looked like he didn't have the video card problems I may have. Sorry for the length of this. Thanks again...

I think the problem that is coming up with laptops now is not so much the video card as it is the power supply. Laptops are typically powered with just enough to run them to keep from taxing the battery in more than is necessary. This is showing up because the additional processing and and video power needed is putting a strain on the power supply and something has to give...thus video is lagging.
The main difference between 4.03 and 4.06 is the player. Version 4.03 only had the old player and 4.06 has the option to use it or the new player.
When you open the Tools/Options does the player box have Old or New in it? It should have Old.

Glen Turner November 19th, 2008 11:15 AM

Yes I have the option of Old and New Player. Old has been selected for a while now. When I went back and checked it at the first suggestion it was already selected. Not sure when I had selected it it but it was set to Old....
My son at Dell just informed me there is no way to upgrade because video is soldered onto mother board....uh, uh uh...what a dilemma .....

ddouglass November 19th, 2008 11:30 AM

Glen this is why you are supposed to "save" instead of "run" those downloads. If you had saved it then you could go back to 4.03.:f

Glen, I don't mean to contradict your son at Dell but the notebook you have, the Inspiron 6400 is the same model as the E1505. My wife has the E1505. They were manufactured with 2 different motherboardsas options. 1 has the soldered on graphics chip it is the Intel 950 graphics chipset. That is the one my wife has. The other motherboard has a replaceable graphics chip. That is the x1300 one. I was looking to upgrade her video when I found this out about a year ago. She was trying to edit the kid's videos and didn't have the horsepower to do it fast enough for her. Even after maxing out the memory.

Run Belarc Advisor to verify your video card. It is also a fun little utility just for the curious.

Bear in mind, this still may not fix the problem, but upgrading the video is still a WHOLE LOT cheaper than a new system.

Yep, lesson learned........I back up the laptop with Accronis but it overwrites the file that was there...I have 4.06 on disc but nothing earlier that I can find....I thought I did and now you got me digging around looking...:).....Thanks for your help...

Glen Turner November 19th, 2008 12:01 PM

Hey, no problem contradicting my kid...I have known him for 24 years and even I know better...:).....It is a Dell 6400/E1505. The Dell part number and description for the Video card off the spec sheet when I bought is Item Number 320-4654 128MB ATI MOB RADEON X1300,I6300/E1505....I'll run the program in a few minutes and let you know the results. Thanks....

Glen Turner November 19th, 2008 01:00 PM

Okay marklwood....This is what it shows..... ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 [Display adapter] Default Monitor (2x).........Are you saying that you believe I can take this bad boy apart and there is a good chance the video card is replaceable? There ae several on the market available....My son did send me that info before he was told it was not upgradeable....btw..cool program...thanks

It's Christmas time and everyone needs a help this year...

Click here to download 4.03 and SAVE to Hard Drive. :w

Keep trying on fixing your Laptop. It might be the best "final" answer, but 4.03 will let you return to the "good ol' days". :c

Yep that's what I'm saying. I think the 4.03 will give you some breathing room to decide how to proceed. I did a quick check on Ebay for "Dell 6400 x1400" and in the last 30 days they have been selling between 35-60.

Sure is. I can't remember when I found this. Probably 5 or 6 years ago. I keep a copy on a thumb drive along with an anti-virus, anti spyware, and firefox along with a couple of other disk utilities for visits to my families' house. They are always asking me for help "while I'm here":g

Glen Turner November 20th, 2008 10:44 AM

Uh...the dummy here...I downloaded 4.03 and then ran setup.exe but it opens 4.06 instead of 4.03....what am I forgetting or not doing?

ddouglass November 20th, 2008 11:18 AM

Did you upgrade or Remove and re-install?

Glen Turner November 20th, 2008 11:32 AM

I just now removed 4.06 exe from Hoster file and reinstalled and that fixed that...Everything seems to be working fine except I can't make the screen small enough to fit the monitor. You can see the singer/song at the bottom but none of the marquee at the top. I've gone into properties/settings and changed resolution to 1024x768 which is the best I can do. Don't know what to do next...as an afterthought I did have 4.03 on the old HD I had backed up in Aug. of this year and got to work fine and was able to view entire sceen after a little work. But that HD has not been updated to latest windows stuff either. Ideas??????

What is your onscreen (computer monitor) resolution set to:?

Glen Turner November 20th, 2008 11:47 AM

1280 x 800

Glen Turner November 20th, 2008 12:05 PM

Well I had for a second...I changed to 16bit then hoster closed due to some error and it was gone again. I went into the ATI advanced settings Catlyst and worked on the monitor settings too. It's got to be something along those lines because i had it right for a minute...I'll be out till later this afternoon and check back for ideas....Thanks to all for the help...amazing what Great bunch of folks you are.:):g
