Maybe uninstall, remove registry components and reinstall?

The only part that I am worried about are the singers.

I spent all day organizing singers songs at a club I karaoke at for the singers list and I don't want to loose them because I deleted all there songs in the open list.
Is that possible? This not a high priority for me just a small inconvenience.
Thanks Roy

You can create a backup of the Singers database, click the "Singers" button next to the search button. when that opens there are 2 buttons to choose from select "Singers" in that dialog is another button "Backup DB" press that.
Another little safety thing you can do is open Hoster/Tools/Hoster data folder look for "singers.mdb" and singers_backup.mdb the last one is the backup you just created, as an extra safety copy the singers.mdb to a completely different folder or a usb stick.

Regarding the manual when you click on the link "hosterman.htm" does that open the manuel for you if so is the title of it "Video Hoster® 5.09.02 User Manual" or another version ?

It may be just ticking the box in the install process to remove all previous settings will work without un-installing first. I don't really know as I have never seen this problem before.
Did you try Renaming the manual file before installing as that should make it re-create a new one that might renew the link. Just name it "manual2" then it will still be there as a back up but be ignored on a re-install.

I did all those things you suggested. I uninstalled using Hoster.

I used "CCleaner" to remove any registry inputs and remove un-necessary files and folders.

I re-downloaded the 5.09.02 again and I used the newest download to reinstall and checked the box as suggested.

The manual still does not work.

Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

Just installed Hoster 5.09.02 and after indexing my songs it only located half of the songs from my hard drive. I just changed from a Dell with XP pro to an Asues with Windows 8. I have approximately 250,000 karaoke songs, some are in KMA formate, others are MP3G and zipped files. While re-scanning the folders in the database, hoster stops responding. I restart the program and go through the same process and again, hoster stops responding. I can also take and start the program and start a show; while a song is playing and searching for another song, hoster stops responding. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Thanks,
Brett

Is this a new install from scratch or did you upgrade from a previous version of Hoster? If from a previous version what version was it?

I had the same problem about it stopping when I 1st started the program and I have a similar song size as you. I closed my program and restarted but I clicked "NO" to scan. I checked with a search to see if all the songs were there and sure enough NO.

I closed the program again and opened it back up and I go that small window asking if I want to scan again and this time I answered yes. 6 hours later it finished and there was 1 song that I was focused on that did not get included.

I checked the "EDIT SONG" and it was there. So, I deleted the .kmh & the importedFiles in that folder and added them again so that I was sure that, that song was in the database.

I do not know how many more are missing. But I opened the Windows Explorer and in that folder I clicked "Properties" and found the difference of 50,000 songs more than what Hoster was saying I had.

I went through each folder, all 250, and checked to see if all those songs were in my database and those that weren't got added. But of course this is a new computer and I did copy and paste to a new external hard drive. So, who's to say that something didn't get copied correctly.

Since I expected problems, I wasn't too disappointed and after a couple weeks I think I'm ok now.

I did find that you really need to make the setting changes as that suggest. I found that if I don't change the "Adapter" setting by "Disabling" them in the "Network" setting that sometimes it will crash. I just use the "Troubleshoot Problems" to restart again. So, everything is working ok?!!? I think.

The hard drive that containes my music was in the old computer but it only had music on it. This was a fresh install from scratch on a brand new computer that had never had hoster installed. I did go through all the processes of changing windows prior to installing hoster.

So, are you saying you removed the hard drive that was in the old computer and put it in the new computer as a secondary drive? Did you have any version of Hoster on the old computer? This info is needed to try and to determine where you are and what the problem may be.

I did on the old computer's "C" drive. The version that was on it was 5.8 and prior to that was 4.30. I did not have any version of Hoster on the drive that I transfered over from the old computer to the new one.

i wanted to completely removed an old database from 1 laptop and replace it with another. I removed all files & folders, ran rebuild db so it reported 0 songs. then added folders 1 by 1.
i'm having 2 issues currently:
1. even tho' there were no songs left in the db, i was only able to import 30 of 300 songs with the claim that there are 270 dupes. why would this happen if there were no songs left in the db? how can i wipe out any memory of there ever having been a db?
2. the merge dupes button freezes hoster

Item 1)
If these are kmh types, each of the folders containing these types has a file named "ImportedFiles.txt" this contains a list of all your imported files in that folder. If you delete this file I'm not sure if rebuilding the database creates this file again.
You may want to test on a folder with the least files in to try it first. One way to do this, from the Build database dialog use the Exclude folder button to remove those songs from the database.

Then open the folder in explorer and rename the "ImportedFiles.txt" to "Backup-ImportedFiles.txt" just in case you need to replace it.
Now from Hosters rebuild dialog, go back in to the Excluded folders list, select the folder and choose "Remove folder from list".
Now go back to the rebuild database dialog, use the add folder button and brows to the folder and add it to the list, you should see it rebuilding just that folder into the database and when completed tell you how many songs from that folder added to the database.
Then using explorer look in the folder and see if it rebuilt that .txt file.
If yes then that should answer to your question, so you would then have to remove that file from each folder.
Take note if it doesn't replace it you will have problems when using the Index Song files dialog, ticking the hide imported tracks won't work.

Item 2) I don't know but did you leave it for a while to see if it started responding again ?

Roy is the man when it comes to giving direction to Hoster! If you still don't have the songs after you do what he has advised, here is what I have done in the past with similar problems and it has worked for me. First it is important that you are sure the songs are no longer available in Hoster. Then open windows explorer and go to the folder that you have the missing songs in. Delete the folder Roy mentioned "Imported files.txt" or rename it. If this file doesn't exist still continue to the following. I then open Hoster and import the folder with the missing songs like you would do with new songs. It will create a new "Imported files.txt" when you index these songs. ONLY do this if you are still having problems AFTER you try what Roy suggested. Also, in earlier versions of Hoster if imported files are KMH and then deleted or songs just aren't listed in Hoster, after deleting the "Imported files.txt" the KMH files may still be with each song that has been deleted or missning. I have had to delete all the KMH files that are listed with these songs before Hoster would import them again. On the newer versions of Hoster if I delete songs in the Hoster tools/edit page it also removes the KMH files but in my testing it doesn't remove the "Imported files.txt" file.

Hope this isn't to confusing. Roy has a much smoother and accurate way of explaining things then I do. Good luck!

Walt

thank you both to roy and walt!

you've given me some great info.

the freezing issue: i left 3 overnight. 1 finally merged dupes, the other two just stayed frozen all night.

but my most immediate problem: i can't find where the temp files are kept in windows 7. as my folder was scanning it completely filled my harddrive. i have less than 2 MB, yes MB free :O i had about 70 gigs free but the folder scanning just started filling the harddrive. so weird. it's happening on another computer that is running windows 8. i found those temp files and it instantly freed up 80 gigs. the merging is the least of my problems at present :S

First of are you using 5.09.02 as an update was released from the original 5.09 ?
You can check this from Help/about Hoster.

Have a look in the Quarantine folder, to find it open Hoster, go to Tools/Hoster Data Folder, you should see a folder named Quarantine, Is this full ?
If your files are on an external drive you may find a Quarantine folder there. open the external drive and look for MTU/Hoster/Quarantine or it might be just Hoster/Quarantine, see if that has any files in it.
If the files in these folders are kma types then deleting them will mean losing them altogether, if they are kmh types then it is only the kmh headers which is only a small file anyway.

If you were looking for it using an earlier version like 5.08 the quarantine folder would be in C\MTU\Hoster folder.

As your drive was full that may account for the merge freezing.

Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

my drive wasn't full though. i moved the files to a different computer. after all the files were copied i still had 70-80G free. i clicked on rescan folder in the import window and suddenly my harddrive started filling up. i have found and deleted the quarantine data but that doesn't account for nearly 70 GIG hiding somewhere that i can't find. it never even finished indexing because it ran out of space. i have mere MB left on my C drive and i desperately need to find where hoster put these temp files during the scan.

oh yes... windows 7 using 5.09.02

Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

The only place I know of where it stores any tempary files is in the Quarantine folder.
The only other way I can think of to find where it may have stored them is using windows search feature and type some file names in that you think it may have stored and see if it finds a folder with these files in.

As you say you clicked the rescan folder when it started filling up your hard drive I wonder if it has doubled up files in that folder, can you remove that folder by using the exclude folders button in the rebuild database dialog.
Now hold your pointer over the folder and a pop up should tell you the size of it so make a note of it.
Then open that folder in explorer, right click in the folder and select "Sort by" then "Type" if you can't see "Type" select "More" and a dialog shows with tick boxes for different items, Find "Type" and tick the box for that item.
Now right click in the folder again and select Sort By then Type.
Now this should show all the files sorted in mp3, cdg and kmh which will make it easier to delete all the kmh header files as they are all together.
After that use your pointer on the folder again to check the size again.
Then look at the mp3 files and make sure there are no duplicated files, if there are they would probably have a (2) in the file name.
If there doesn't appear to be any duplicates I'm at a lose.
You can try re indexing this folder now that you have removed all the kmh header files but I'm a bit stuck at the moment.
I should submit a help ticket to support you can access that from Hoste/Help/Online support.
They don't work weekends but they will see it Monday.

Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

it's the darndest thing roy. on a lappy running windows 8 i found the culprit. The entire time the folder was being scanned it created a music & kmh file in C:\\users\name\Appdata\Local\Temp\MTU_Hoster

i deleted them as fast as they filled up this temp folder and finally managed to scan the folder. on two previous attempts the same thing happened... as it was scanning, the harddrive was being filled by these files and once the harddrive completely filled up the scanning could no longer resume. deleting these files cleared over 80G on the harddrive.

Although i found the sneaky folder on a windows 8 laptop i have not been successful finding the same folder on my personal lappy running windows 7. I have searched. i have opened every folder on my C drive, i have used clean sweep and other tools to try to delete left over temp directory items and nothing. i am left with a personal computer with only few MB free. the act of scanning the folder seems to have created duplicates somewhere but even a find dupes program did not yield any luck.

the only other thing i can possibly think of is to completely uninstall hoster is hopes that phantom files would also disappear.

is this not just the weirdest thing
