And there we have it!.Along comes MR.Normal Computer Owner who hasnīt got the money for 2 Computers.Installs his Hoster onto the Computer besides his MS Office,Movie Players,Games and the rest and yeah guess what ...problems!!.

What iīm saying is the software should run on a fairly average computer. If i can get a 2GB complex Game or Steinberg Cubase to run then Hoster can do it to,without Tweaking!!.

There is no such thing as a COMMON AVERAGE computer. An 800MHz CPU with 500MB RAM and XP can work fine if you don't have all sorts of TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) programs taking up compute power that you don't see being wasted. Vista.... blasted OS along needs 1GB and if you want anything as complex as Hoster to run you better have 2GB. And, you better turn off that darn Sidebar that shows you the weather and who knows what else. Leave that enabled and... well don't expect Hoster to have no hickups cause the OS is sweeping the closet out when your song has to draw a new screen taking 15% CPU power which isn't available while sweeping. :r :m

Vista was not designed to have computed lyrics (aka CDG) and audio playing in sync. Even playing videos can be a problem with WMP! We have had to beat our heads on the wall to find out what it will and won't do. We TOO expected Microsoft to tell us the truth. We've been with them since 1978 (I have a contract with Bill Gates signature) and now they decide to lie to us. As MS Developer's Network PAYING members, we still can't find out the basics of how to make Vista behave. When we told everyone to disable their UAC bit, Hoster 3.316 - 3.321a worked like a champ. Enable their security garbage and you wouldn't believe what road blocks appear that we can't get around. I'm seriously afraid Microsoft has shot their leg off on this poor decision to force Vista on everyone. BTW: MTU still is shipping XP laptops to insure our customers have the best for doing professional shows. Vista is NOT for professionals... PERIOD! :e

Every one of our customers wants the MOON... and becuase we are MTU, we try to give you MARS also. However, that means we have to use more compute power. For example, someone complained here about the Marquee scrolling jumpy. Well, if you read in the manual, we provide 2 controls so you can adjust it yourself. Since most folks don't read any more, we now ship these two settings EXTREMELY low than we used to so it will scroll smoother.

AMEN my friend... you can't imagine how many hundreds of hours our gracious Betas have invested helping get 4.00 out.... 48 beta releases over 11 months. The most complex we have ever done. Yes, I think God did bless one of our Betas to suggest we include 3.40. Every computer is UNIQUE. We could test for a thousand hours and still "your" computer could fail to run Hoster's this or that feature. All we can do is fix the problems as they are reported. :)

2. it is a money thing updates all the time most fix problems or bugs.

1. Hoster was the first. We plowed the new ground that ALL OTHER competitors have copied what we did. We had code back 10 years ago that they never wrote. They had DirectX which we didn't. To add some features, we had to do a major overhaul of our core software architecture. If you read much in the New Features Request Forum, you'd see that as my "excuse" for why this or that couldn't be added. For example, we couldn't play a video in the Preview display in the Hoster screen until we rewrote core code.

2. I'm sorry you are wrong. If you look back over our free upgrades from 3.310 to 3.321a, you'd see by far the majority of upgrades were NEW features. Maybe you didn't want them, but many others did. We add them when requested. Maybe you're not aware that historically our competitors "say" they give you upgrades for free, and by golly they do! Only problem is you get NO NEW FEATURES. They reserve all "your requests" for their NEXT Program, that you must pay retail for to get. MTU has NEVER required a Hoster customer to pay full retail. In fact, $39.99 is a steal compared to what we pay for our development. We have spent over $100,000 on Hoster 4.0x and our engineering expenses every month exceed what you may make in a year. If you feel we are ripping you off at $69.99, wait another month until its double. The $69.99 is a discount for "early buyers" who will run into some problems. Until we get thousands of users on XP and another thousand on VISTA, we won't have all the stuff ironed out. Those who wait will pay more. Did we lie? Did we truly KNOW there were major bugs in Hoster on Vista? NO. We knew in 4.00 that it was NOT ready for Vista and we made that very clear. Once we felt we had "breakthroughs" that made it work on Vista, and no problems were being seen by our testers, then and only then did we say "Vista ready". Some problems we are finding are now related to the user not shutting down the Sidebar and other processor wasters. We're writing FAQs every week as we discover these Vista problems.

2. hoster now looks like a really great program instead of just a program to play karaoke like a zip player does.

3. i have looked at most of the programs out there for karaoke and most play zip files so if mtu is smart they should try and keep them in the mix at some point. there is a lot of companies out now with programs looking pretty good hoster does know how to keep it simple for most of it.
Thanks for lrtting me vent lol john

1. The next cost upgrade may come at 4.1, but that is MY decision as President. We have never said 5.0 is the next. Currently, we have a LOT of new features planned and promised that will be free. However, Vista has cost us a massive amount that we never expected. We would now be shipping most of the new features planned if we didn't screw around with Vista. You have no idea what we deal with.

2. I can't believe you would call Hoster 3.321a "just a ZIP player"! :r

3. We have 12 error traps to make your stolen, friggin free ZIPs work. No one else has that degree of sophistication. However, with the tens of thousands of $$$ invested in these, we are ready to stop playing ZIP files directly. We have beefed up our Import HD Files screen to auto-convert ZIPs to MP3+G file pairs and import them as HDMP3G type files that do NOT require unzipping when ready to play. Oh.. of course you can say we could unzip them ahead of time before playing them. Let's see, that means 1) no random playing - only play the next song in the Playlist whether the Host wants it next or not, 2) Require more RAM in the computer than now, 3) force ZIP files to be in one specific format, not all 12 we have discovered. No thanks. We'll continue our flexibility and still allow you to import your ZIPs as KMAs that WILL play correctly.

Robster, thanks for the positive feedback! :g Somehow, our key change got out of tune. We fixed it in 4.04, which we hope to release tomorrow or Thursday. :c

I have busted my butt for 15 years, growing slowly as I made a little cash & I still have ONLY 10,000+ songs. THE PROBLEM is these kids also advertise that they have all this music, bringing attention to themselves, which also brings attention to everyone else around them. And when the Feds come looking for them, that means they will be looking at everyone else in the area. If you're illegal, THEN KEEP IT TO YOURSELF.

Well said Skybird74! I can't tell you how many honest users we hear from complaining about the illegal buzzards who haven't paid for one song. I heard from one lady using S&D with 50,000 songs she claims she legally paid $1,700 for TWO hard drives full of the same 50K. She actually believe the jerk who took her money, and left her fully exposed legally to having all her gear, and even car/van being confiscated due to illegal use.

Here's your bullet that MTU paid legal researchers to prove: http://www.mtu.com/support/copyright-notes.htm

If a Venue Owner knowingly hires a KJ who has illegal songs, the OWNER can be sued also!!! Lay that on anyone who hires one of those illegal "kids" who doesn't own a thing! That should make them worry BIG TIME, and give you the legal job. :g
