I am using Microsoft Home Premium Upgrade from a DVD purchased in the Microsoft packaging at Staples. I haven't mentioned before, but I am able to load the demo with no problem. I just cannot install the production version. I have also tried to install previous versions and they do not work either.

I think that most of the Vista versions MTU and the beta testers have been using were upgrades direct from Microsoft without the computer manufacturer's modifications.
Admin, maybe you need to check with all (a poll?) and see which versions and whether they are retail or manufacturer install. Might surprise you!

I've got Home Premium and have had no issues with Hoster (except it took me awhile to figure out where Vista hid my songs.mdb).

The OS was provided by Acer though I had to instal it from the setup file which is in a hidden 10gig partition. It included a lot of extra's from Acer with no way to opt out. Some of it I can turn off from the processes tab in task manager, but I haven't figured out how to turn it off permanently
in msconfig.

Do a search in the registry for the process name. That should get you to the run location for it.

I communicated with microsoft as this seems to be an issue effecting several software packages according to some threads at MS. They sent me some things to try. I will try them tonight and update results. If I find something that works I will post full instructions.

Do you have a link to some of those threads in the MS forum? I would like to check it out.

I haven't seen any threads at Microsoft. I am communicating directly with one of their engineers.

katkins March 7th, 2007 01:40 PM

Let me rephrase the use of the word threads originally was a mistake. I found a couple of items in the KB at Microsoft. As far as this instance I have been emailing back and forth with an engineer at Microsoft. I am waiting to hear back from them hopefully today. I will share on this thread if I find something useful.

Ok,
We are making some progress today, just still not able to install yet.

We are finding it to be deep in our .dll file that Microsoft changed some call, that we were using, so far this is what it looks like. Problem is figuring out which one and how to fix it.

It was working fine, last week and no longer is this week, so something in Vista changed on the prebuilt computers.

As stated above, I have tested and it still works fine under my Vista Ultimate and Vista Home Basic installs, that I installed myself.

It will not work on the laptops we get from a laptop manufacturer, these are where the problem comes from this week.

I have been doing quite a bit of research on Microsoft's forums and I keep seeing a recurring question in regards to running an executable/program. This is to right click on file and go to properties. run the program in a Windows XP(SP2) compatability mode and run the program as an administrator. I know some have tried the first but has anyone tried the second? I don't have Vista so am not exactly sure where you find this control, so if someone else could post specific directions that would help.

It appears Microsoft has decided to restrict even "administrators" to running as a normal user unless administrator rights are needed and then you have to set that.

Tried it and it didn't work.

Great News!!! :g

We found the problem. It is NOT in Vista at all, but rather the new Laptops have changed. We found the exact cause (always a welcome relief :r), and fixed it late yesterday. It is installing on all our inhouse Laptops ordered, and they will ship today.

We will release Hoster 3.316 by 5:00PM today. :g

Great Work!!!! I will try on my system tonight and post results. Thanks for all your work on this. I am assuming of course that if we got a 3.315 email we will get an email with a download link for this.

katkins March 8th, 2007 08:12 PM

Installed without a hitch. Everything seems to be working fine at this point. Once again...GREAT WORK MTU!!!

WELL DONE AGAIN TEAM:g

We'd like to hear from everyone in this Thread who had a problem with 3.315. Did 3.316 fix it for you? :?
