Different settings work for different computers. Hope this helps for now. I believe a fix will be available soon.

Thanks, I will wait before taking drastic actions. Just hope the backup computer keeps going as good as it did last night with 4.11.

Thank you for your response,
I have done all of these things and the sound is still awful if the key is changed in either direction. As I mentioned before It has been fine except for some crashes and it was fine on New Years Eve in the first rotation, the sound messed up in the second rotation. I'm wondering if I should just wipe the computer clean and start over. Any advice before I make that decision?

I don't really know whats going on here but a couple of questions, how are you connecting your audio, are you using headphone out jack, digital, usb out, via a usb mixer or some other way?

If your using the headphone out can you check sound controls. Right click on speaker icon and select playback devices, check that Speakers is showing as default device, highlight it and select Properties/Enhancements, make sure disable all sound effects box is ticked. then if you have a dolby tab select that and untick any boxes there, then select the advanced tab and untick the boxes for "Allow aplications to take exclusive control & Give exclusive mode applicatins priority, press OK and see if there is any change to your sound problem.

Another thing you can try is Tools/Tempo Mode and select "Normal play mode"
This will prevent you being able to use tempo control but may stop your problem.

Thanks again. I just went and tried all of this and it is still doing it. Gonna pick up an external sound card and try that. Connecting headphone out to mixer. Have tried several cords, to rule that out. But the sound is bad with or without hooking up to another device. hmm, may just be the sound card.

Did you just reinstall 4.11 as if you did I'm surprised it even opened. Or did you follow the instructions shown in the knowledge base for downgrading to older versions here:
http://www.mtu.com/kb/kb/index.php?a...d=118&relid=10

If it's just the search giving you problems have you tried rebuilding the database ?

I did follow the instructions for downgrading. I just got through completely unistalling Hoster and everything to do with it. Rebooted, cheked for windows updates (didn't need any) and did an install of 4.11. Everything in the program works except search. When I click Search, hoster crashes. I will wait for a reply before I reformat the computer. But I am ready to do just that. 4.11 has no distortion on sound. So that is what I am going to put back in when all is said and done. The crashes were a pain, but I can tolerate it. At least I will have my sound back. Oh, and I did rebuild the database. Thanks

Re: Post Hoster 5.08 Problems here

I don't know why search should crash it, the only thing I could think of was the database corrupted as the database in later version contains more fields of data that 4.11 can't read but as you say you rebuilt it then I'm stuck for the answer. Plus not having a running copy of 4.11 myself I can't refer back to it.

Perhaps someone else will have the answer :w

Restored the computer. Installed 4.11 and it appears to be working fine. Won't have a chance until tomorrow night to play around with it. Will see if I still get audio drop outs and random crashes. Then will see about putting the 5.08. back in. Thanks for all your Advice & Help.

Ever since I upgraded to 5.08 I have been experiencing the program crashing for no reason and losing all of the singers and their songs in the que- it use to be when the program crashed it would retain the singers and their songs not now it is very difficult when you have 15 singers in there and all of the sudden lose everything I have never had this problem before I have a Asus I7 computer which work great but for some reason the program keeps randomly crashing and all data is lost

First off to make sure you got the last 5.08 release goto Help/About Hoster and see if you have a full stop after the 5.08 (5.08.)
If your version doesn't have the . re-download and install it.

Regarding the losing singers after crashing, if you close Hoster and re open it does it still not return with the same playlist that was showing before closing?
If not it maybe the registry has got corrupted so try the following before closing Hoster goto "File/Save As" then brows to C\MTU\Hoster folder and save the file there with a new name like "Test"
then close Hoster and restart Hoster and see if it then opens with the same playlist as the one showing when you closed.
This may reset the registry save folder.

I'm not sure about your crashing some others have had this and MTU are working on the problem, does it happen after any specific action ?

Laptop: HPDV6 8G ram, dual processor, 320HD, Hoster v.508.11 latest update OS WIN Vista

What changed: deleted old file folder, added new file folder (i do this periodically to update entire file system). This has always worked until yesterday when suddenly no files would play. This laptop has been working with no problem until this last "import songs" "rescan folder"

Problem: songs will not play. show red error msg.

What I've tried:
- closed & reopened hoster
- rebooted laptop
- ensured laptop setting (still) conform to MTU specs
- ensured os is updated
- ensured os file system is clean & optimized
- rebuilt database
- removed all files from quarantine folder
- removed all files except for a single song track (not even this single track will play upon import)
- ensured folder was not listed in excluded folders
- created a folder with a new name, put a single song track into it and imported.
- toggled remove silence mode and normal play mode
- toggled tempo play & normal play modes
- pulled hair, cursed, pouted
- tried playing song from singers db, search db, edit song mode, & old & new playlists
- re-installed hoster 508.11
- renamed songs.mdb & backup to start brand new one
- uninstalled old and re-installed newest codecs
- read all kinds of messages on the mtu forum
- poured over update notices
- head is now spinning from information overload

help? :?

This has happened to me inthe past several times for unknown reasons, that I think might have been caused by the use of another program, but anyway, the onlyway I couldfix it was to "restore" my system to an earlier date. That always worked. Then start over and see if you get things to work again.

Thanks Bryan. I saw that you did a system restore to solve the issue. I opted not to go that route only because it seemed to go against the mtu instructions to always have the latest updates. i will try it tho if nothing else works. I have just uninstalled 5.08 and reinstalled 5.07. It worked. so i uninstalled 5.07 and reinstalled 5.08 to see if it would work as a new install. it didn't. sooo uninstalled 5.08 and back to 5.07 so i'll have a working lappy for tomorrow night. thanks very much for your suggestion. :)

Yes, but now I do remember one time that every time after I installed a specific windows update a while back that I was getting the error problem. All you really need to do is just to restore a few days back, or maybe just before your latest windows update, then see if that works, then reinstall any windows updates and see if the problem returns.

After your show if all goes well with 5.07 I would first create a restore point.

Then re-download Hoster 5.08.11 just in case there was something wrong with the download.
If your music files are on an external drive be sure to have it connected then install as normal as an upgrade, do not uninstall anything, then it should use all your existing settings from 5.07 when installed.
If you are still getting the error on play open the C\MTU\Hoster folder and inspect the quarantine folder to see if the songs in the playlist are listed there. If the file in the quarantine folder is a KMA then see if it will play from the K-oke button by browsing the quarantine folder to load it to the playlist, you won't be able to do this if it's a kmh.
If it's a kmh it would only move the header file here, you could only test that by browsing to the original folder containing the file.
If none of your playlist files are showing in the quarantine folder delete the songs.mdb and re start Hoster, again if your song files are on an external drive be sure to have it connected before restarting, Hoster should rebuild the database before opening.
If you find a lot of the files are in the quarantine folder let us know, see how you get on with the info so far :r:e

When you say "This has always worked until yesterday when suddenly no files would play" Was 5.08 running correctly before this happened ?
When you tried playing from the edit dialog, what happens there ?

the only reason i'm keeping this as a hail mary option is 'coz i hadn't made any changes to the laptop, hadn't updated windows, nothing hardware or software about the laptop changed.

hoster 5.08 ran its usual show on sunday. i updated only the the song files on mon and suddenly it wouldn't run anymore.

Yes. 5.08 has been running without a glitch on this laptop since it was released. this is a dedicated laptop that is only used for hosting.

all the files are in a folder on the internal HD (zip, avi) + kmh

i did delete (rename) songs.mdb to create a new instance but it did not help

when i tried playing songs from the edit dialogue they simply would not play. no messages, no popups, just "click" and nothing.

right now, 5.07 is running well. we'll use it tonight, then i will set restore point and re-install 5.08 as you suggest. ty

What concerns me with when you say "deleted old file folder, added new file folder "

How did you delete the folder ?
Did you do this in windows explorer ?
If so then what can happen is Hoster still thinks all those files are in the database because you didn't remove them via Hosters edit dialog or by using the exclude folder option first to remove those folders from the songs.mdb in the build database dialog.
Then when you try adding the same songs again it treats them as duplicated files and sends them to the quarantine folder.
I see you say you have done this in the past so perhaps you did something slightly different but I wouldn't recommend this approach.
