Re: Remove Silence Problem

I am just now trying to use the remove silence feature and like others it is crashing. I read the past posts about after it crashes use the "*" with the no se selected and the first record that appears will be the culprit. I deleted that song (which was the first song alphabetically by title on my database). I ran it again it got to about 5 files processed and crashed again. I did the "*" again and it was showing the first song by title again (second song actually I deleted the first song before). This can't be what you meant??? Is the first song alphabetically by title the first song the remove silence is trying to process and so on???

I don't have access nor would I know how to use it if I did so I have no clue how to finish. I am sure I am doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Stu

Stu, I checked and you had installed 431 (September release), but you removed it.

What version are you running and seeing the crash? I believe this bug was fixed in version 4.22 http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster.htm#422, item #3.

Re: Remove Silence Problem

I have 4.22

I tried it several times yesterday and the hoster screen would white out and I had to do a ctl alt del to stop the non responding program.

I started it again before I responded to this post and I have processed 41 of 33519 records and it is still running, so I don't know for sure the problem I was having yesterday had anything to do with remove silence

I'll post again when it is complete or I have problems

Thanks, Stu

Re: Remove Silence Problem

I find on my Laptop (Dell Vostro that I use for "computer" use) that if I don't power off every few days, all sorts of unexplainable problems start appearing with IE8, Firefox and other programs I use.

Before you run Remove Silence, I'd turn the computer off and back on to insure you have a fully cleaned boot.

Also, I use System Mechanic to clean my system "hives" every few days, and to clean Registry entries that get corrupted (how that happens I'll never understand :r) and compact Memory usage. I think without this, my computer would bog down and become more and more worthless.

Another tool (free) I use is CCleaner. It sometimes finds Registry corrputness that Sys Mech doesn't.

i've been running Reg. Mech. almost every 2 weeks, for some reason, everytime i run it to clean, defrag my regisrty, there's always some things that needs to be fix/repair, but it keeps all my laptops/ pc's , ( 5 left, 3 of my pc's got fried at the same time.won't power up just clicks )running w/o any problems..

Re: Remove Silence Problem

I've been trying to remove the silence for sometime now and it does about 30 files and crashes it is not a bad file.

I really don't care about the above problem because I just want to remove the silence from my audio songs. I rebuilt the database with only those files which are KMH. It took only a couple minutes to process all 9,000 audio records. Can I not remove the silence from audio KMH files

Just wondering Stu

I don't think you could removed silence on just audio files, since it doesnt have all that acknowledgement ( what ever you might wanna call it )at the beginning of every song.

You can't remove silence from Audio songs because there is nothing to remove. The Remove Silence only works for Karaoke songs and this is because you have video at the beginning and end with no audio.

Re: Remove Silence Problem

Sorry I've been trying to figure out a way to make my audio songs crossfade. I thought someone had told me awhile back set the begin and end pointers and use remove silence. There is much as 4 to 10 seconds between songs (counts down) and using that was supposedly the closest I could get to resemble a crossfade.

I guess i misunderstood, and I'm going to quit wasting my time

thanks, Stu

Re: Remove Silence Problem

Are you talking about songs in the Background Audio player or audio played from the playlist ?

Although there is no silence to remove on either of these types there are adjustments for how long they take to fade.

To adjust songs in the playlist, shorten the fade times by using the controls found in Tools/ Audio Controls where you can shorten fade in and out times and also make auto play control set to zero.

If playing from the B/A player the fade in and out adjustments are in the B/A players window.

There's not a cross-fade on either just a fade in and out but you should be able to get it down to a couple of seconds.

If not then the audio files must have a silent area recorded in them, then the only way to remove that is with an audio editor.

Re: Remove Silence Problem

From the play list. I play songs before a show and after the show. I use to do it with ITUNES but I think it's clunky and I don't like Media Player either.

I like doing from Hoster with the exception that all the silence between songs is a bit unprofessional.

stublack November 24th, 2010 05:24 AM

Re: Remove Silence Problem

Thanks Roy I've done all the things you've suggested, but some songs may still have as much as 10 seconds of silence and there is no way to eliminate that through the things you suggested.

i've been using ITUNES for # of years now for djing ( i also have #"s of diff. dj programs ) and Hoster, i never had a problems with it, i had the playback option to 12sec. and make sure to uncheck the Sound Enhancer box and check the Sound Check box., the way i used to removed silence on audio files was using Mixmeister to edit each song on a playlist i created, then i'll burn it to a cd, i'll then import it to itunes, create a separate file and import it to Hoster, the problem with that was once you've done with the editing you actually have to type in the title of each song, if you don't, you'll only have track #'s.

Re: Remove Silence Problem

Thanks Billy

I was using Itunes but do not like it running in the background, did and still does cause Hoster to crash once in awhile. I do like the crossfade in Itunes however.

I found that I can edit the starting and ending points for audio songs one at a time in tools/edit, but it would take me years to get them all done, and I'm sure I don't want to spend the time, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I spent a great deal of time putting all my audio songs on Hoster and unfortunately it appears to have been a total waste of time.

I am aware that Hoster is KJ software and not DJ software and don't expect that to change. I only wish I could run Hoster and another software in the background like before (without it crashing). You can't win them all!!!

A quick ammendment though, the Remove Silence tool started with my first DiscID alphabetically, so I had to hit the DiscID tab after the No S-E search to get the offending file to list first.

i don't know why Hoster is crashing on you, i could run dj programs or itunes ( not at the same time though ) w/o hoster crashing on me.all i do was minimize the dj programs when i am ready to do my show.and i havent had any problems..have you tried the alt. ctrl. delete to see if there are other programs running besides itunes and hoster.

Re: Remove Silence Problem

Thanks for your help. I ran Hoster with ITUNES minimized (nothing else running in the background, internet shut down and antivirus shut down) tonight for the first time in a long time. And sure enough Hoster crashed. I think for my sake it's better to leave well enough alone.

Stu, I take exception to that. We added Audio and Video file paying into the Playlist, and added the Background Audio Player so you didn't need other audio player or DJ programs to play audio.

Hoster has an extremely sophisticated method to detect the silence before and after a song, even with audio glitches within these areas. It performs very well in 4.32.

What Hoster version are you running?
